At the The European Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgeons (ESCRS) , Dr Sònia Travé-Huarte spoke to the team at The Ophthalmologist about her experience with Omnigen (amniotic membrane) and OmniLenz. Over the weekend our team attended the Tear Film & Ocular Surface Society (TFOS) conference in Venice, Italy. Here, we were fortunate enough to get the first look at a recent clinical study from the Optometry and Vision Sciences Research Group from Aston University on the application of an optimised Omnigen-OmniLenz motif in the treatment of severe dry eye disease. Advancements in amniotic membrane procedures have generated multiple ways of applying the tissue to the surface of the eye without sutures. Omnigen, a Tereo-processed amniotic membrane, can be utilised to cover the entire mucosal surface in patients with severe ocular damage.
