About us
The Nuclear Advanced Manufacturing Research Centre was created in 2009 to help UK companies win work in nuclear. We operate across nuclear new build, operations, decommissioning and technology development, and in other high-value low-carbon manufacturing industries. Our manufacturing innovation capabilities are open to all UK manufacturers, from specialist SMEs to top-tier OEMs. Our engineers and sector specialists work with companies to develop innovative techniques and optimised processes for large-scale high-precision manufacturing. We have also developed a range of supply chain development support to help manufacturers enter the nuclear market and compete worldwide. Our flagship Fit For Nuclear programme, launched in 2011, is a unique diagnostic tool which lets you measure your operations against industry requirements, drive improvements and close any gaps. The Nuclear AMRC is owned by the University of Sheffield. We are part of the High Value Manufacturing Catapult, a national network of seven specialist industry-focused research centres.

GE Hitachi, Holtec, Rolls-Royce SMR and Westinghouse will progress to the next stage of Great British Nuclear's SMR technology selection process. The four companies will now be invited to enter negotiations with GBN. Of the original shortlist of six, EDF withdrew in July, and NuScale has now been removed from the running. https://lnkd.in/ewXPK6-w

Holtec Britain has confirmed South Yorkshire as the preferred location of its its new small modular reactor (SMR) factory to serve customers in the UK, Europe and Middle East. The proposed factory represents a £1.5 billion investment, creating hundreds of skilled jobs. Holtec says that at least 70 per cent of materials, components and work will be sourced from the UK. Congratulations to our founding member Westinghouse Electric Company, whose AP300 small modular reactor has been approved to enter the UK's generic design assessment (GDA) process. Fantastic day at Nuclear AMRC on Wednesday for our Project AFFIRM demonstration! Lots of delegates from the nuclear industry were in attendance to witness our intelligent robotic welding solution, with project partners, Createc. We had some great discussions on the state of the nuclear sector, and what might be holding the industry back in terms of skill shortages and technology adoption. Great to have our IONA demonstrator on show too, with support from the Renishaw Industrial Automation product suite. Take a look at a revolutionary new robotic welding platform, designed for nuclear waste containers and other challenging fabrications. The Affirm project is a collaboration with INSPHERE Ltd and Createc, with funding from Innovate UK. The researchers have developed a state-of-the-art multi-robot multi-sensor platform that interprets 3D scans of workpieces for precision welding with minimal human input.
