Michelle Stephens, Generation Services Sales Manager at npower Business Solutions (nBS), looks at how this year’s ‘Future Energy Scenarios’ (FES) report from National Grid ESO could impact independent energy generators:
“Independent energy generators already play an important role in supporting the pathway to a decarbonised energy system, particularly as renewable decentralised energy sources are increasingly used to supply public and private sector organisations.
“These will become even more important as our central energy system undergoes radical reform, whether this is to support more renewable energy generation coming online, or if natural gas is steadily replaced by hydrogen.
“For example, the launch of FES comes at the same time as the new Secretary of State for Energy and Net Zero, Ed Miliband, relaunched the Solar Taskforce with a view to spearheading a ‘solar rooftop revolution’. Commercial and industrial rooftop schemes can both help organisations decarbonise their own operations, and also provide a source of power to other businesses.
“If businesses are going to become increasingly electrified, they need the infrastructure to support them. This is where independent generators can play a crucial role. By selling their power to other businesses via a Power Purchase Agreement (PPA), they can support the secure and sustainable energy system of the future.”
