NorthStandard is pleased to announce its membership of NEMO. While the nuclear technology companies are working to develop nuclear reactors safe for maritime application, assuming that is achieved, without also advancing the regulatory frameworks and public perception around nuclear, floating nuclear won’t become commercially insurable. Our participation with NEMO includes engaging on their working group looking at Maritime Nuclear Liability. By advancing this work now it avoids unnecessary delays down the line where the regulation has to catch up with the advancement in technology. It was both a privilege & a pleasure to invite the NorthStandard ACTS Members to our premises under the smooth arrangement of Aniruddha D.. Our discussion on how shipowners need to prepare for the new ISO8217:2024 fuel quality standard took centre stage. Shipowners need to embrace these changes, especially with new fuels such as Biofuels, but it does seem that old chartering terms hold them back. More work needs to be done here. Our experienced John MacKenzie followed up with an objective need for independent lube oil condition monitoring & why this plays a fundamental role in operational performance & sustainability. And keep your commercial agility in your own hands as he rightly says. Such wise talks would not be complete without a visit to our state of the art OCM(oil condition monitoring) & FQT(fuel quality testing) laboratories. And finally topping that off with a much deserved toast of cocktails at our very own Captains Bar! Much thanks to NorthStandard for hosting a lovely dinner afterwards with a view to kill for.

In September, teams from NorthStandard took part in not one, but two Dragon Boat Races! The first was the Spinnaker OSCAR Dragon Boat Race in London’s Docklands to raise funds for Great Ormond Street Hospital Charity, more than £660,000 was raised by all the teams that took part. The second race was the NE1 Dragon Boat Race on the River Tyne to raise funds for Newcastle Hospitals Foundation, which also achieved a very impressive amount across the two day event. Both teams had a blast, and we are very proud to have been a part of these events in support of two fantastic causes.
