  • A talented team of our Internationally Educated Nurses came together to share their skills with the next generation of nursing staff. The event was held at the Diana, Princess of Wales Hospital, where the first-year students were treated to a ‘speed-dating-style’ educational extravaganza. They all had the opportunity to visit 10 different stations, each providing them with experience of practical proficiencies and giving an insight into skills they will be able to use once they are qualified Registered Nurses. These included: ·      Sepsis ·      Stool typing ·      Blood analysis ·      Wound assessment ·      NG insertion ·      Oxygen administration ·      Nasal suctioning ·      Peak flow ·      Chest compressions ·      A-E, including neuro observations The event was hosted by the Practice Development team and led by Lead Practice Development Nurse for International Recruitment, Trish Mckenna. Speaking on the day, she said: “This has been an absolutely fantastic event and I am so grateful to the Internationally Educated Nurses for giving up their time to put together their presentations to the students. “They are extremely highly qualified and brilliant at what they do, so it’s fantastic that they are sharing their skills and expertise and helping us to train and develop the next generation of nurses. “It’s not easy to come here from another country and leave everything you know and love behind. As part of today’s event, they have all shared their stories about where they grew up, the qualifications they have achieved and their experiences of working in their home countries, as well as during their time with us. “They’re all amazing – and they make such a difference to our patients. We’re very grateful to them for their hard work and dedication.” Anusha, Anisha and Tisha, who all joined us from Nepal, all said it had been great to use their Nurse Educator skills again – and that the students had all been really engaged. Student nurse, Ella, added: “I really enjoyed it. I think it would be really beneficial for this event to be made available to all first year students at the start of the programme.” Fellow student, Liam, said: “It’s great to see the International nurses getting the credibility they deserve, sharing their knowledge and really showcasing their skills.” #NHS #StudentNurses #InternationalNurses #Education University of Hull
