So…the King made a film for us... 👑 Ok, not exactly... But we caught your attention 👀 The Nium team recently got together at Diamond Light Source Harwell Science and Innovation Campus with RE:TV to create a film to build understanding about Green Ammonia and Nium's mission to provide Green Ammonia on Demand globally. Who are RE:TV ? ‘RE:TV was launched by His Majesty The King in 2020, when he was Prince of Wales. As our editor-in-chief, he gave us clear guidance on the principles and priorities for us to follow, and his long-standing commitment to the environment continues to inspire us today. As he said in 2020, "We've got to come together as a world on this."’ Communicating these initiatives is so important The environmental impacts of ammonia production are widely known within the industries we are targeting, but there isn't as much awareness on the solutions - Many buyers don't know that Green Ammonia on Demand could be an option for them in the very near future. By reducing the emissions associated with ammonia production, we can create a pathway to green hydrogen for use in sectors like transport and heavy industry. Incase you haven't seen our recent posts, we wanted to share the film with you again: https://lnkd.in/eWCEvre4 We're committed to our mission to reducing carbon emissions by providing green ammonia on demand. If you want to read more about our work, follow our Linkedin page and sign up to the Green Ammonia Revolution Newsletter: https://lnkd.in/ei-J84J8 Thanks to our founders featured in the video Lewis Jenkins Yubiao Niu Phil Hunter and everyone else who helped with the shoot Steph Thommen Ross Griffin Leo Leung Keith Ajagun-Brauns Matthew Ryan #greenammonia #greenammoniaondemand #wearenium #nium #sustainable #environmental #startup
About us
We're Nium 👋 🌏💚🔬 (pronounced Nee-Yum) We're nanoscientists, engineers and entrepreneurs: a team and technology built to eliminate emissions at scale. Nium was born at Carbon13, Cambridge in Spring 2022. Our nanocatalytic solutions were developed by our CTO over 2 years at the UK synchrotron facility, Diamond Light Source. Why Ammonia? Ammonia is a building block to our lives, precursor to half of global food, a key to a cleaner future of food and fuel. But Ammonia production is dirty - the most polluting chemical industrial process on the planet - 96% of it depends on the century-old Haber-Bosch process, and relies on burning fossil fuels. Our patent pending, 'Clean Ammonia on Demand' system provides a scalable, efficient, effective, alternative. We reduce the pressure, temperature and overall energy in ammonia catalysis, removing the need for fossil fuels. Clean Ammonia on Demand brings science backed benefits across multiple hard-to-abate sectors. * We can eliminate fertiliser emissions, 1.4%, 450 megatonnes of CO2 annually * We can eliminate a further 3% of maritime CO2 emissions by using clean ammonia to power ships, instead of fossil fuels. *All while giving a versatile vector to green hydrogen energy as we race to decarbonise energy, steel, aviation and other critical industrial processes. Why 'On Demand?' Today the majority of the ammonia we use is made in China and Russia at massive industrial plants burning coal, gas and oil. We decouple ammonia production from these fossil plants. Using renewable power and our novel nanocatalyst, we synthesise ammonia at a fraction of the price and pollution of traditional Haber-Bosch. Our Clean Ammonia Army of supporters and investors includes Agfunder, DCVC, BMW Respond, Octopus Ventures, The Sustainable Markets Initiative, The Greenhouse, and Carbon13 - The Venture Builder for the Climate Emergency. #Ammonia #GreenAmmonia #GreenAmmoniaOnDemand #Nium #WeareNium

🚨 Hot off the press...on #UKCBAM The Government Response confirms that.... 🗞 A UK CBAM will be introduced on 1 January 2027. It will place a carbon price on goods that are at risk of carbon leakage imported to the UK from the aluminium, cement, fertiliser, hydrogen, iron and steel sectors. It will ensure that UK decarbonisation efforts lead to a true reduction in global emissions rather than simply displacing carbon emissions overseas. 🏗 Products from the glass and ceramics sectors will not be in scope of the UK CBAM from 2027, as previously proposed, to allow government and industry time to address feasibility concerns raised throughout the consultation process. The government will continue to work with industry to address these concerns before considering their potential inclusion at a later date. 🏦 The value of the minimum registration threshold will be increased from £10,000 to £50,000 so only businesses importing £50,000 or more of CBAM goods over a 12-month period will need to comply with the UK CBAM. As always, please reach out to me or my colleagues CarbonChain for further information on all things #CBAM #EUCBAM #UKCBAM

At time of writing Nium has no full time commercial employees. However, through inbound enquiries, partner referrals and the brilliant research and management from Joe Were we have seen strong market demand. 💸Signed Offtake LOIs: $57M 👨✈️ 10 Pilot Opportunities 💸Qualified Pipeline Opportunity: $120M We have also been crunching the numbers from our CRM. They tell us an interesting story. This data includes traditional users of ammonia looking to decarbonise: Chemical & Fertiliser companies making up almost a third of all enquiries in our database. This is what we expected. But here is the strange bit. The majority of enquiries we get are from new entrants to the ammonia market. These are well capitalised companies with renewable and hydrogen assets, clear off-takes and defined targets - but no ready way of producing ammonia. Over 10% of enquiries are from Oil and Gas Almost half are from Renewable Energy companies and Green Hydrogen facilities. These are not small companies - of 137 leads, 43 have over $1bn in annual revenue. 33 have over $10bn 15 have over $50bn These companies don't even make ammonia right now. So what's happening? 🌍💡

"I studied a paper from the Stanford nanoscience team, which theorised that minuscule technologies could reduce the energy required for ammonia synthesis, by replicating the natural nitrogen-fixing abilities in certain plants. Recognising this was a groundbreaking discovery for ammonia production, I built a dedicated lab equipment to test the theory, spending three years crafting atomic precision machines capable of powering ammonia synthesis from just water and air. " More about our very own Yubiao Niu inside the article by Milton Park (Oxfordshire)⬇️ https://lnkd.in/e7DzYZhi
For this Park People we spoke to Co-Founder and CTO of Nium, Dr Yubiao Niu. Ignited by a childhood dream, Dr Yubiao Niu shares how growing up next to a Haber-Bosch plant fuelled his mission to decarbonise ammonia production.
