  • ✨Congratulations to Consultant Niall McLeod, who recently won the British Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons (BAOMS) Trainer of the Year Award. Niall was presented with the award by the Association President, Ms Daljit Dhariwal. The prize is awarded in recognition of the training and support that the individual has offered, and the winner is chosen among recommendations from the Fellows in Training group. One of Niall's trainees, Speciality Registrar, Chris Blore said: "Mr McLeod has taught me in several courses and lecture sessions, giving his time generously to myself and others to ensure we were fully prepared for our final Fellowship of the Royal Colleges of Surgeons (FRCS) surgical exams. "Fellow trainees speak very highly of him, I was delighted to see his efforts recognised by our association in this way." Niall said: "I'm extremely proud to be recognised as Trainer of the Year by the BAOMS. "I have been a consultant for almost 14 years and training has always been a huge passion of mine. Congratulations Niall 💛

  • ✨ Our Performance and Informatics team (P&I) recently took part in an Artificial Intelligence Hackathon in the AWS offices in London. This work was started and completed in an 8-week period within a Dragons Den type concept. P&I showcased the work they have developed around Generative AI and Clinical Coding and were up against projects from the private sector. P&I competed against the likes of Virgin Money, HSBC, DWP, IBM, DEFRA, Scottish Power & the Scottish Government and secured themselves 1st place from the judges. The judges were impressed with the concept, scalability, and the presentation of the overall project. P&I are now front runners for the use of Generative AI in the public and private sector and are leading the way utilising new technologies to make improvements for our patients. 🖥️

  • ✨ After five years of hard work, congratulations go to Dr Simon Beatty and Dr Jehan Zeb who have recently achieved their Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT) in General and Internal Medicine. Both have worked in the Acute Medicine department for a number of years, after starting out as Senior Clinical Fellows, before progressing to Speciality Doctor and then NHS Locum Consultant. Completing their CCTs through the CESR process has been no easy feat. Both Simon and Jehan have collected extensive evidence of their competency and submitted this to be assessed by both the GMC and Royal College of Physicians. Consultant and Clinical Lead for Acute Medicine Liz Moss said: "We are very proud that they have been awarded their CCTs and are delighted for them to join the team as home grown substantive consultants! "It's a great accolade for the department and the Trust." They will now join the Acute Medicine department as Substantive Consultants on the Specialist Register. 💙

  • ✨Congratulations to two groups of colleagues whose projects have been shortlisted for this year’s Nursing Times Awards. The awards bring together the nursing community to shine a light on the brightest talent in the profession and recognise those making nursing innovative, patient focused and inclusive. 💙The UHCW Research and Development Shared Decision-Making Council has been shortlisted in the Clinical Research Nursing awards category, which recognises the vital role of nurses in delivering high-quality clinical research. The council’s entry, ‘Enhancing research visibility – driving ideas to action’, describes its efforts to increase the visibility of research within University Hospital. 💙The Clean4Green initiative has been shortlisted in the Infection Prevention and Control category, which recognises projects that take an innovative approach to infection control. Clean4Green, led by UHCW’s Infection Prevention and Control Team (IPCT), has been tackling the challenges of ensuring effective environmental cleaning in care homes. The IPCT hosted master classes for care home staff and produced an educational toolkit featuring adenosine triphosphate (ATP) technology. Both project teams will need to give a presentation to the awards judges in September and the winners will be announced at a ceremony in London on Wednesday 23rd October. 🔗You can find out more about the shortlisted projects here: https://lnkd.in/dFQ79Vbf

  • They may be cute, cuddly and colourful, but these little toys have arrived at UHCW to support mental health and wellbeing. A big thank you to Mood Bears owner Jo Proud, who dropped in to University Hospital to deliver a bagful to our Organ Donation team. There are eight bears in total covering a range of emotions – angry, hope, calm, silly, sad, happy, love and nervous – to aid children and adults to express emotions when words fall short.
