We are working with Asda to put vital cancer awareness messaging on the packaging of oral hygiene products to encourage shoppers to be body aware and contact their GP or dental practice with any potential cancer symptoms. The NHS guidance will be displayed on Asda’s own-brand toothpaste tubes and bottles of mouth wash, with information on mouth cancer symptoms. Know what is normal for you. Get to know your body so that you can spot any new or concerning changes. It’s probably nothing serious, but finding cancer early makes it more treatable and can save lives. If you have an ulcer that lasts for three weeks or more, contact your GP or dental practice. Find more information. https://lnkd.in/e-XAwbUK #WorldHeadAndNeckCancerDay

An NHS nurse once described as the 'fastest woman in Africa' recently retired after nearly 50 years of service. Rose, who represented Ghana at the Olympics and the Commonwealth Games, recently retired from London North West Healthcare NHS Trust after nearly 50 years as an NHS nurse. Affectionately known as ‘Matron Rose’ while at work, she started working in the NHS in 1975 — just three years after she ran the 100 metre relay for Ghana at the Munich 1972 Olympics. The mother-of-four and grandmother-of-10 said, ‘I’m happy that I’m going to have some time with my family, but I have been in this hospital all my life, so retirement feels like losing something — you’re part of the furniture and all of a sudden you are not going to be. But I’m so happy that I have achieved what I wanted to achieve.’ Thank you Rose. 💙 #WeAretheNHS #NursingCareers #Olympics

‘Nursing has always been my love. Since the age of five I would regularly tell people that was what I was going to do, and here I am nearly 70 years later doing just that.’ Betty joined the NHS when she was just 18 years old, training to be a nurse. Most recently Betty has worked at The Queen Elizabeth Hospital King's Lynn NHS Foundation Trust as a registered nurse, where she looked after patients before and after surgery for over 20 years. Last month, Betty retired after an impressive 56 years in the service. Betty has had some remarkable career highlights, including meeting the late Queen when she officially opened the Day Surgery Unit in 1999, and working with patients and their families with Huntingdon’s disease when the gene was officially recognised in 1993. ‘I will really miss being here, I have truly loved working at QEH. I love being with people, patients and staff. The team are really special and have made coming to work each day so enjoyable.’ Now, Betty’s daughter, Claire, who works in the community mental health team, will carry on the legacy. With more than 50 different nursing roles in the NHS, no two nursing careers are the same. Find your role — visit https://lnkd.in/dRmBjC8 #WeAreTheNHS

It’s coming home! Staff at Wirral University Teaching Hospital NHS Foundation Trust are celebrating the Euros 2024 final by setting up activities for the Department of Medicine for the Elderly, where patients with cognitive impairments, such as dementia, are treated. The team have a number of activities planned, including taking patients to ‘the pub’, one of a number of reminiscence rooms at the hospital designed to help the memories of dementia patients. And the patients who aren’t well enough to visit ‘the pub’ will still be involved in the action, with staff taking screens directly to the patients to watch the match. The celebrations and activities, alongside watching the game, are expected to help the patients by provoking memories and boosting wellbeing. Thank you to all our NHS staff who are going the extra mile to help patients enjoy the game! ⚽ #EUROS2024
