It’s Volunteers' week this week. Group B Strep Support (GBSS) are focusing on the volunteers that support them during this week and have shared a great piece about our Chief Nursing Officer, Diane Jones who is also one of their Trustees. Fantastic work Diane! 👏

We are celebrating Volunteers Week and focusing on the fantastic volunteers who contribute to our success. Today we are pleased to spotlight one of our Trustees: Diane Jones Chief Nursing Officer of NHS North East London Integrated Care Board (ICB). She says: ‘I qualified as a Midwife in 1992 and cared for women and babies affected by group B Strep but didn’t know a lot about this life changing infection. The creation of Group B Strep Support in 1996 was greatly welcomed by Midwives as it gave us the information we needed to improve outcomes for babies. Being a better-informed Midwife enabled me to confidently discuss group B Strep with women and families. It was also incorporated into our mandatory training. I was delighted to be selected as a Trustee to help raise awareness of group B Strep, as we still see poor outcomes for babies, although this is reducing. Through working with the charity, I have used my voice to promote awareness within the NHS and beyond as we know that many women have never heard of the infection. I’ve spoken at our North-East London group B Strep awareness week for the last two years and took the subject to our Local Maternity and Neonatal System (LMNS) board. This has ensured Midwives in this area are equipped with the latest information and guidance to provide the best possible care to their patients. My ambition moving forward is for awareness among young people before pregnancy, particularly among those seldom heard communities.’ Want to volunteer for us?
