Last week we hosted the world’s first (un)conference looking at intersectionality as investment criteria for LGBTQ founders and migrant founders 🦄 The energy was NEXT LEVEL 🔥 #iiF2024 brought together over 200 founders and investors at Google’s stunning London HQ to explore the state of queer and migrant capital. The speakers were beyond inspiring; the wisdom, power and intelligence that they brought to our panels, roundtables and interviews. IN. AWE. 😍 Our intersecting identities and backgrounds (such as class, gender, race, ethnicity, neurodiversity, sexual orientation, socioeconomic background, disability, and more) can result in prejudice and discrimination that's amplified and unique to the individual. Yet intersectionality is our strength: our unique perspectives, resilience, and ingenuity make us, and our overlooked creativity, especially commercial and deserving of investment as founders. 😍 Intersectional Incredibles - where do I begin? Over 200 of you came to i³ investing's inaugural (un)conference iiF last week, and the feedback has been phenomenal. 🌈 The question I asked you all was: what #iiF we could amplify #Queer and #Migrant capital to help foster systemic change? 🔥 And wow, we unpacked that in full queertastic fashion... so many inspiring & incredible insights (and constant alliteration) from our panels, spotlights, plays (yes!), speedy netwerking, & afters (complete with a real rainbow!) Class was back in session last week with Module 2 of Newton Venture Program. With a focus on topics often spoken about, sometimes derided, in conversations about VC and startups - Value Creation, PortCo support, and legals. Biggest takeaways? 🥇 Communicating the type of support you CAN'T provide, is just as important as the support you can provide. This might be why investors and founders don't see eye to eye on the support that's provided. 🌟 As investors, especially at the early stage, we can't focus so much on the risk all the time, we need to look at the potential. 📣 Female LPs - I know you are out there ✨ 🚀 When I was first entering venture, I was told repeatedly there were no female founders. I now know that is absolutely not true. A lot of the investments i've made are being led by a female founder and new research showed that a quarter (24%) of founders deciding to build startups in 2023 were women. 💃 Repeatedly during my venture career I was told there weren't that many women in VC. I now run a community of over 1,000 and Sifted keep a list of over 350 female partners. So, again, not true. 💰Right now, I am being told there aren't any female LPs. I JUST DON'T BELIEVE IT.
