For as long as young people find themselves homeless in London, we will be on a mission to give their potential a home
About us
‘Youth Centre’ may be in our name, but we are so much more. Every year, thousands of young people across the capital become homeless because of family breakdown, domestic abuse, poverty, experiences of violence, or war and persecution in their home country. Under-resourced councils are only able to help a limited number of the cases, and with an ongoing housing crisis, cuts to services and difficult job market the rest find themselves homeless and vulnerable at a critical point in their young lives. We are a vital support network for 16-24 year olds with nowhere else to go. Through the ‘one stop shop’ services we provide at our daycentre and outreach we support thousands of young people experiencing homelessness in London to improve their wellbeing, change their economic circumstances and find somewhere that they can call home. Given the challenges that these young people face, it’s no surprise that they tell us that surviving is a talent, but we believe that these talents should be used for so much more. For as long as young people are homeless and vulnerable in London, we will be on a mission to give their potential a home.

We were part of a movement in 2022 to get a chapter into the Homelessness Code of Guidance about how to support people fleeing violence. It's helped us fight for housing for people at risk of violence. We say every day that youth homelessness is a different experience with specific solutions, we think this needs to be recognised at a government level. Step 2 of our policy checklist is a new chapter on youth homelessness in the Homelessness Code of Guidance, which would formally recognise this. Read more at: https://buff.ly/4d3H7oX #PlanForThe136k

FC Hope wonderful trip to Brighton to play Away From Home FC VYD Community Interest Company last weekend. It was a very competitive game with plenty of goals and entertaining skills from both teams. Congratulations Away from Home for winning with a final score of 5-4! After the game the players enjoyed some delicious food: Cheese Rolls & Fresh Fruit (the cherries were top quality) and ice cold water. Thanks to Bryan and the eastbrightonfoodcoop.uk squad for their ongoing support and generosity and providing the refreshing snacks 🍉 🧊 🥪 After the food we went down to the beach where some of the young people had a swim and played keepy uppy football on the sand with the tide going out... a wonderful day for all!

🚨 It's National Schizophrenia Awareness Day! Despite 1 in 100 people living with the condition, it is still severely stigmatised and misunderstood. Share this post so that people get the facts 👇 #NSAD24

#PlanForThe136k is a collective of 140 charities across the UK calling on the new government to create a strategy to end youth homelessness. We developed a simple 10 item check list of tangible changes the gov could make to meaningfully tackle this crisis. Take a look: https://buff.ly/4d3H7oX

We wish we didn't have to ask but.... we are seeing more poverty than ever at New Horizon Youth Centre. For young people this can look like period poverty - not being able to afford proper menstrual products, or afford basic hygiene items like shower gel or shampoo. This month we are running low on our vital hygiene bank! Help us support all young people to feel clean, fresh and confident by donating items from only £3 through our Amazon Wish List: https://buff.ly/3WgqiQT

We're proud to have worked with Heriot-Watt University on their report 'Young Black People’s Experiences of Homelessness in London.' It confirms what we see every day, that young Black people are disproportionately affected by homelessness. We can't deal with any of the massive problems facing the UK without being honest about the fact that race is a huge factor in systemic inequality and injustice. We're calling for a #PlanForThe136k to provide better housing outcomes for all young people, regardless of their background.

Our new government have promised a 'cross-departmental strategy to end homelessness.' We're excited to hear it and it just so happens that 140 youth charities wrote a policy checklist of 10 things they could add that would tangibly tackle youth homelessness. Take a look! 👉 https://buff.ly/4d3H7oX
