Watch our new laser cutter in action! ⚡ We’re excited to showcase our brand new Laserscript LS6090 PRO from HPC Laser! A few weeks ago, we shared the news of its arrival, and now you can watch it in action. In this video, you'll see it effortlessly slicing through 5mm thick Delrin to create a panel for one of our client projects. 🛠️ This laser cutter has quickly become a crucial asset in Neucin’s workshop, significantly expanding our in-house rapid prototyping and manufacturing capabilities and enabling us to further accelerate the device development process for our clients. 📈 Thanks again to HPC Laser for getting us up and running so quickly with our new laser cutter! Hey LinkedIn community! 📢 It’s been a busy couple of weeks at Neucin so we’ve been a little quiet on LinkedIn recently, but don’t worry were still designing, developing and innovating across a range client medical device projects! 💊 🧬 The team have been working hard across a range of client projects, innovations, and business growth activities 🥵 So, what better way to share what we've been up to these past couple of weeks than to look back at some of the highlights! 🤩 🚀 Kicked off a new drug delivery project with a new pharma client.   ♻️ 🫁 💨 Secured the next stage of an ongoing drug delivery project for a current pharma CDMO client. 🫀 🚑 Supported the sterilisation validation at @sterigenics for an organ preservation system we are developing. 🤜 Successfully completed our internal audit of our QMS in preparation for our BSI stage 2 audit later in the summer. 💡Developed IP and contributed to the patent application for a device we developed in collaboration with our client. 💡Started the first stage FTO activity for our own innovative device platform to revolutionise gas therapy treatment for patients. 👏 As part of their ongoing training and development Neucin’s Henry Verity and Evangelina King started their Creative, Problem Solving and Design Thinking course with the University of Cambridge Online. 🌱 Grown the team with two new people coming on board in the coming months #watchthispace If you would like to find out more about Neucin and how we could support your medical device design and development, then we’d love to hear from you. Interested to know what goes on behind the scenes at Neucin? The team are currently working across a range of projects at varying stages in the development process, which means every week there’s always something new and interesting being developed and as part of ongoing client project, this week, we’ve been experimenting and comparing Formlabs Elastic 50A and Silicone 40A resins. Fast design iteration and rapid prototyping is a core capability of Neucin and through the utilisation of Formlabs SLA 3D printing technology combined with their elastomeric engineering resins we’ve been able to expand our offering when developing medical devices. Recently we’ve been collaborating with a client on an R&D research project developing a normothermic ex situ heart perfusion (ESHP) circuit to support their ongoing studies, which are focussed on exploring the limits of donor heart function and organ viability in the field of organ transplantation 🫀 🚑 But how does this relate to the use of elastomeric engineering resins as part of the device development? 🤔 The circuit requires components with specific elastomeric and mechanical properties, so having the ability to produce flexible parts in-house means we've been able to design, test and compare the components in both Elastic 50A Vs Silicone 40A in a matter of hours! 🚀 When evaluating each material there are advantages and disadvantages for both ➕➖ Generally, each material provides a good level of elasticity, flexibility and durability and their overall elastomeric performance is relatively close and therefore choosing the most appropriate material usually comes down to the design and functional requirements of the application. For applications where representative silicone components are required, the new Silicone 40A 3D printing material is a game changer, but more design consideration is needed in terms of part geometry, wall thickness and support density and placement as well as requiring additional steps in the post-processing but the end results are impressive. 📢 Neucin News! This week were delighted to share some exciting team updates! First up, were happy to announce that after completing her 2-week work placement back in March, Evangelina King has come back to Neucin for a summer placement.      Evie, who is currently a 2nd year Engineering (BEng) student from the UEA School of Engineering, made such a positive impact during her 2-week work placement, so were delighted to have her back for the summer!   Welcome back to the team Evie! 👏 🎉   In further news, Neucin’s Sidney Hadfield will be joining the team on a more permanent basis as part of his upcoming gap year!   Sid, who has just completed his engineering studies at the University Technical College Norfolk (UTCN), has big travel plans for his gap year starting with a month in Japan 🍱⛩🗾 (were all very jealous! 😁) followed by some extensive travelling throughout Europe🚉 later in the year and during that time he’ll become a more permanent member of the Neucin crew! This week were sharing how we utilise a silicone part production process with 3D printed tools to produce custom mouthpiece adaptors for inhaler testing and development 💡 🫁 💨 For years we’ve been producing a variety of 3D printed mouthpiece adaptors for our clients to support their inhaler testing development, utilising our Formlabs SLA 3D printers and a host of flexible engineering resins including silicone 40A, Elastic 50A and Flexible 80A. Although the direct 3D printing of the mouthpiece adaptors is extremely versatile, allowing for the design and manufacture of standard and custom mouthpieces in a few simple steps, there can be limitations regarding material suitability and compatibility when tested with solutions, for example, as part of API testing and analysis.   Where material suitability and compatibility are more critical, using a silicone cast mouthpiece adaptor is the preferred choice. Recently we’ve developed our own in-house process to silicone cast standard and custom mouthpiece adaptors combining our existing 3D printing and rapid prototyping capabilities with a silicone casting production process and we couldn’t be more pleased with the results! 🤩 The combination of 3D printing technology with silicone casting comes with significant advantages and allows Neucin to provide its clients with a fast, cost effective and flexible approach to mouthpiece adaptor production.
