While the UK's 2023 emission reductions were significant, we are still off-track for the 2030 interim net zero target. On the positive side, UK emissions (minus international aviation and shipping) are now less than half of what they were in 1990, thanks to reduced coal usage and an increase in renewables. However, transport emissions only fell by 0.9% from 2022 to 2023. The growth of battery-electric cars has stalled, and we need accelerated adoption to meet targets. Urgent steps are also required to overcome planning barriers for charging points, heat pumps, and onshore wind. 🚗 The CCC warns that restoring the 2030 phase-out is crucial.
