“It’s not very sexy to talk about that [pelvic health] and it’s far cooler to say ‘I’ve done a 100kg squat', but is it something that’s going to improve our lives?” In the latest episode of the #SeeUsNow series, A&E doctor and Severn Stars 2024 player Niamh Cooper talks about the relationship she’s seen between periods and injury as well as highlighting the important work done by the Netball Players Association to break down taboos around pelvic health.  Niamh also credits England Netball and The Well HQ’s work around the NETBALLHer programme in the importance of opening up conversations around the menstrual cycle and performance – something you can read more about here: https://lnkd.in/emi4zbaV You can hear from Niamh alongside Loughborough Sport’s Nat Panagarry, London Mavericks' Camilla Buchanan and Ellie Rattu in episode five of the #SeeUsNow series, exploring female health and injury with elite athletes.  Watch the full episode here: https://lnkd.in/eYyJ3Zbg #WomensHealth #Injury #Periods #PelvicHealth #Netball

As women’s sport rapidly rises, find out why Netball is ready to soar. The Netball Super League (NSL) is ready to relaunch. With eight teams ready to deliver game-changing on and off court advancements, transformational change is coming. This is netball’s time and we are ready to seize it. The sport has reached new heights over the past year, from record levels of grassroots participation to historic achievements by the Vitality Roses. Sport England's Active Lives survey shows netball is the most played team sport by women and girls in the UK. With more than 3 million people playing netball every year, it is also the third most popular team sport overall, beaten only by men’s and women’s football combined and men’s and women’s cricket combined. With these exceptional participation numbers, it is no surprise that England Netball's membership continues to grow year-on-year, with a record number of over 120,500 members registered in the 2023/24 season. More records have been broken internationally, with the Vitality Roses achieving a historic best ever finish at last year’s Netball World Cup. Over 5.6 million watched the tournament across Sky Sports and BBC Sport as England reached the final and took home a silver medal for the first time. Domestically, the NSL broke boundaries and records on and beyond the court in the 2024 season; selling the highest number of tickets ever for an NSL Grand Final and achieving a 53% increase in viewing figures on Sky Sports across a season which saw a 72% female viewing audience across Sky Sports and BBC Sport – a statistic that no other sporting property comes close to, solidifying netball’s position as a unique leader in the women’s sports market. It's clear that netball is a sport on the rise, and the NSL is poised and ready to capitalise on this moment. NSL 2025 will see 80 professional player contracts across eight teams, with the average player salary increasing by at least 60%. 50% of games will be played at major arenas and all games will be available to watch from home, ensuring fans stay engaged with their favourite players, clubs and the League throughout the week, not just on game day. This relaunched NSL will be so much more than a League. Combining the huge number of 3 million people playing netball annually with the strength of loyalty and engagement demonstrated by passionate fans across the sport, the NSL will build digital and social content designed to engage new fans. Taking an innovative approach to digital audience growth that will drive the intersect between sport, music, fashion, art, culture and lifestyle, there will be a real push both on and off the court to grow the fanbase further as the NSL builds the most competitive, commercially vibrant and captivating League in the world. Managing Director of the NSL Claire Nelson spoke to Leaders in Sport with IMG about why this is netball's time: https://lnkd.in/e279QRdf #Sport #WomensSport #Livesport #Netball

Opening up honest conversations about periods, pelvic health, major injury and more 💭 Our next instalment of the #SeeUsNow series has landed with some brilliant conversations around female health and injury. Hosted by the fantastic Betty Glover, who is currently reporting for BBC Sport at the #Olympics, this episode takes a deep dive into the mental and physical impact of female health factors. Topics in this episode include training to suit your menstrual cycle alongside the potential link between injury and periods, the importance of female focused training including the key pelvic health workshop the Netball Players Association has introduced, as well as the mental and physical toll of major injury in elite athletes’ lives. Great also to hear about the importance of England Netball and The Well HQ’s NETBALLHer programme in raising awareness of these topics around the female body. Taboo breaking and a must-watch, Loughborough Sport’s Nat Panagarry, Severn Stars’ Niamh Cooper, London Mavericks’ Camilla Buchanan and Ellie Rattu take to the sofa for episode five of the #SeeUsNow series – available to watch on the NSL YouTube channel here: https://lnkd.in/esS4KPue #WomensHealth #Periods #Injury #Netball #Olympics
