I wanted to bring attention to Nature4Climate`s app (naturebase.org). Its a great tool to illustrate the potential of nature based climate solutions for a wide range of users, from government’s, communities, or even a parent trying to explain the importance of nature as a climate solution. See the link and video below. Amazing tool. For Norwegians and Scots zoom in and see how important it is to stop draining peat. If you want to look at tropical forests in Brazil pls remember the time element - restoration takes time - best to start with protection! #opinion The climate crisis is fundamentally a water crisis. The Amazon is experiencing worsening climate impacts, with an increase in droughts and floods due to global warming. Water, not just carbon, plays a crucial role in climate stability, influencing global weather patterns. There is an urgent need for climate solutions that manage water resources and reduce carbon emissions to protect the ecosystems and communities of the Amazon. We recommend reading the opinion article by Dr. Marcia Nunes Macedo, a Senior Scientist at the Woodwell Climate Research Center. In the article, she states, ‘No doubt carbon emissions alter global climate, but the water cycle is the engine that drives it, connecting the land surface, oceans, and atmosphere. Climate warming is now supercharging this engine and intensifying extreme droughts, floods, and water insecurity. Help raise local voices on this International Day of the World’s Indigenous Peoples. 📉 Indigenous Peoples protect more than 80% of global biodiversity while representing only 5% of the population. However, they are, more often than not, not rewarded for their invaluable stewardship. Direct funding for tenure rights and forest management of Indigenous Peoples and local communities amounted to less than 1% of international climate development aid in the last decade. 📢 To build a truly nature-positive economy, 30% of all public climate finance for nature-based projects and investments should include direct participation from Indigenous Peoples and local communities, following the targets set by the Global Biodiversity Framework. 📽 Today, learn more about Instituto Zág Araucária, a southern Brazilian organization led by the Xokleng People, involved in the protection of their sacred tree, the Araucaria, which is now at extreme risk of extinction. ➕ How can we build a nature-positive economy? Dr. Genevieve Patenaude, PhD (Oxon), CEO and co-founder of Earth Blox, joined the Nature4Climate hub at London Climate Action Week and explained what actions are essential in this journey. She was also one of the speakers at our nature tech event, where we invited four pairs of speakers – one nature tech entrepreneur and one private sector client – to share examples of their work. Dedicated to restoring the Teluk Semanting Mangrove, an Indonesian village embraces the mantra: “More mangroves, more blessings,” as they plant Rhizophora seedlings. The country holds the third-highest potential globally for carbon sequestration through natural climate solutions*. Today, on the International Day for the Conservation of the Mangrove Ecosystem (UNESCO), we remember that with temperatures rising rapidly, there’s a critical need for solutions that not only sequester carbon but also provide shelter, aid communities in adapting to extreme events, and safeguard ecosystem balance and livelihoods.
