Last week our HR Manager Leanne Jewell attended the Unlocking New Possibilities' event at Chesterfield College The main focus of the event was to improve diversity and inclusion within the workforce and to unlock the potential within our local communities. The event was organised on behalf of Derbyshire BME Forum by a partnership involving Careers Team Joined Up Care Derbyshire , Derbyshire County Council , Links CVS , Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) , & East Midlands Chamber (Derbyshire, Leicestershire, Nottinghamshire) Working with local schools and colleges is high on our social value agenda ✅

Yesterday Sam Cartwright headed to Lady Manners School, Bakewell for their World of Work Week 🦺 Sam delivered an inspiring talk to Y10 students about the UK construction industry, and all the different types of roles available. This included his journey in construction and the pathways for students to get into our industry. KEEPING IT LOCAL 📍 We have recently secured 12 new projects with 9 different clients, all located within 10 miles of our offices here in Chesterfield!   Whilst we are delighted to have secured these projects, as a long established (over 50 years) and proud Chesterfield based business, we recognise the huge benefits of local clients engaging with local contractors. This week we have been awarded accreditation from Alcumus SafeContractor for achieving excellence in health and safety in the workplace. Alcumus SafeContractor is a leading accreditation scheme which recognises extremely rigorous standards in health and safety management amongst contractors. Our Business Support Manager Lisa Richmond attended the Unlocking Construction Event at HMP Sudbury yesterday supporting prisoners into employment. As an SME it’s worth pointing out that, without the significant resources of top tier Main Contractors and the ability to engage specific Social Value/Inclusion departments, we rely heavily on our passionate staff wearing multiple hats to push forward with such things as social value engagement.   We are extremely proud that, within our Business Plan, our stated company values include a commitment to maximising social value initiatives and everyone at Killingley is actively involved in meeting these obligations and giving back to the community.   It was also very encouraging to see, in addition to the Main Contractors, another SME contractor McCoy Contractors also in attendance with us.    #socialvalue #givingback #construction #landscaping #ourpeople #helpinghand
