Bodkin, a Netflix release from May of this year, is the next feature in our #placedbymotus series. This dark comedy thriller spans seven episodes and follows the story of Gilbert Power, an American podcaster who travels to the Irish town of Bodkin to investigate a cold case. The case centres on the disappearance of three people during the Gaelic festival of Samhain. To aid in his investigation, Gilbert is joined by two journalists, Dove Maloney and Emma Sizergh. While many critics note that the first episode is somewhat slow, the series hits its stride by the third or fourth episode, gradually building mystery as the characters peel back the layers of the story! #placedbymotus is our way at motus VFX to celebrate the amazing projects that some of the VFX talent, whom we’ve helped place, have contributed towards. Starring Paul Mescal, Pedro Pascal, Connie Nielsen, and Denzel Washington - the story follows Lucius (Mescal), the former heir to the Roman Empire, who becomes a gladiator after the Roman army invades his home and forces him into slavery. We welcome Eric to #placedbymotus this month after its release on Netflix during the last week of May. Eric is a psychological thriller that tells the story of a puppeteer whose son goes missing in 1980s New York City, and the father’s attempt to reunite with his son with the help of a 7-foot-tall puppet named Eric. The six-part miniseries stars Benedict Cumberbatch, portraying Vincent Anderson, and he has already received high praise for his performance, with early predictions for awards. The series explores several emotive topics such as addiction, grief, marital breakdown, and the general psychological challenges of dealing with a lost loved one. Additionally, it touches on societal issues of the 1980s, capturing the feel of New York during that time, including the prejudices prevalent during that period. If you’re looking for a strong, thought-provoking story, give this one a try! #placedbymotus is our way at motus VFX to celebrate the amazing projects that some of the VFX talent, whom we’ve helped place, have contributed towards. The British crime/heist series Culprits is our next #placedbymotus - The series was released late in 2023 on Disney in the UK and Hulu in the USA, with all episodes available to stream. It tells the story of a crew of criminals who, after a high-stakes heist, try to go their separate ways, only to find their past coming back in the form of an assassin targeting each of them one by one. The cast is headed up by Nathan Stewart-Jarrett, Gemma Arterton, and Kirby, as well as Eddie Izzard, who makes appearances in two of the episodes. It’s worth noting that the series, in general, is quite violent with its fair share of gore. While it was originally meant as a limited series, given how it has been received, it wouldn’t be a surprise to see a sequel further down the line. #placedbymotus is our way at motus VFX to celebrate the amazing projects that some of the VFX talent, whom we’ve helped place, have contributed towards. A recent release is next up for #placedbymotus - 3 Body Problem premiered on Netflix in late March 2024, and all eight episodes are now available to watch! The science fiction series, based on the award-winning Chinese novel The Three Body Problem, has received high praise and was the most-watched streaming TV series in the first two weeks of its release. The story follows a secret military project tasked with overcoming planetary threats resulting from decisions made during China’s cultural revolution. From the same creators as Game Of Thrones, we see the familiar faces of Liam Cunningham, Jonathan Pryce and John Bradley within the cast - and although the series isn’t a 1:1 of the books, the creators have managed to create a great adaptation. #placedbymotus is our way at motus VFX to celebrate the amazing projects that some of the VFX talent, whom we’ve helped place, have contributed towards. The Penguin joins #placedbymotus this month, with the series scheduled to premiere on HBO Max in late 2024. The story is based on the DC Comics character Penguin and will consist of eight episodes. Fans of The Batman (2022) film will be eager for its release, given the story takes place one week following the events within the film. The plot revolves around Penguin’s rise within Gotham City’s criminal underworld, with Colin Farrell returning to star as the main character. The show was originally scheduled to release mid 2024 but was unfortunately delayed due to the recent strikes. The continuation and completion of these projects is hopefully another sign of activity returning to normal in the months to come. For now, there isn’t too much longer to wait for the next chapter in the Batman story! #placedbymotus is our way at motus VFX to celebrate the amazing projects that some of the VFX talent, whom we’ve helped place, have contributed towards.
