So what else has been happening this month in the land of Ice Cream? In preparation for Summer, we did a new product tasting (it's a tough job) to select some of our limited edition and seasonal flavours and boy did we have fun! We tasted around 30 different flavours, but we needed to choose just three or four really great ones. We'll keep you posted - there's some REALLY REALLY good ones coming.... We did a day of photography with our local legend photographer Tina, who doesn't let the fact that Ice cream melts bother her at all! kind of gal we all need in our lives - as you can see, her work rocks! We spent all last week at the 155th Balmoral Show. Anyone who has done the four days there will certainly back me up when I say I'm only recovering now. Full on, but great fun. 110k visitors over four days must be some kind of record. The sun also came out which made it perfect conditions for enjoying some of our delicious ice cream! Thanks to everyone who stopped to say hello and thanks to the team at Food NI who did an awesome job as always. We welcomed our latest Scoop Ice Cream stockist to the family. Daly's Circle K in Lifford wanted a scoop ice cream solution that would fit nicely with what they already did so well. They installed a well appointed professional scoop ice cream display cabinet and a beautiful new counter area. Here's hoping for a busy summer guys and thank you for the business! Last but not least, we launched the first of our summer flavours - this one is certainly nostalgic! Coke Float is a Double Cream Vanilla and Cola Two Tone Twist. Keep an eye out for it in Morelli Scoop cabinets across the country - it's definitely one you don't want to miss! Now, we need to sort this weather out in time for Bank Holiday Weekend!

Some wonderful news! We have scooped two prestigious awards for our Double Cream Vanilla Ice Cream at the National Ice Cream Competitions in Harrogate. Our Production Manager, Eddie Johnston was on hand to collect the prizes at this years Ice Cream and Artisan Food Show. Our awards were in the Open Ice Cream Class and 'Best of the Best' Vanilla. The whole family is absolutely thrilled with these awards and they are testament to the hard work and dedication our production team puts in to making our delicious Ice Cream! #northernireland #familybusiness #awards2024 #irelandsfamousitalianicecream

45K steps, one too many Mortadella Piadinas, a hairy landing (thanks storm Jocelyn) and a whole lot of fresh ideas. SIGEP, The Dolce World Expo brings together 1000 exhibitors across 28 halls showing the latest innovations for the Ice Cream, Pastry, Chocolate, Coffee & Bakery Sectors. This expo draws over 200,000 visitors from all over the World. Wow! You haven't seen Ice Cream until you've seen it done Italian Style. The presentation is another level, each and every stand brings it's own attention to detail and believe me, they taste as good as they look. It's a tough life. So, what's new? Trends this year........ Savoury & Salty Flavours - My favourite - named 'Profumo Di Sardegna' - A Taste of Sardinia - A Sheeps Milk Ricotta Base rippled with Honey and a Myrtle flavoured fruit crunch. Myrtle has a sweet Juniper & Rosemary flavour. There's a lot going on but somehow, it works. Delicious! I also tried Paprika Ice Cream. Not for me :-) Tea & Coffee Flavours - different combinations with crunch. Intense Espresso, Mocha and Matcha - all very much on trend. Added Benefit Ice Cream - Products that include Probiotics, Protein, Fibre and even CBD. Anything is possible. Loaded Indulgences - New ways of elevating Ice Cream. A new way of doing traditional Ice Cream Sundaes using cakes, sauces and toppings and made to look mouthwateringly delicious. We're looking forward to bringing some fab new ideas to the NI market this year. A very worthwhile trip. #SIGEP #expo #riminifiera #dolcevita #italianstyle

  • Thank you to Treena Clarke and all at Harbinson Mulholland, Ian Smyth PhD and all at Ulster University for inviting us to be part of this fabulous exhibition that celebrates the rich fabric of Family Business here in NI. We had a brilliant day and if you can, pop in and have a look at the exhibition. Well worthwhile.

Today saw UU launch a unique exhibition entitled the Faces of Family Business.  Eleven businesses were asked to submit three images and an artefact that represents their story.  What a powerful collection of exhibits emerged.  Family histories and timelines that marry the past to the present and maintain those core values that make them such a powerful force in our economy.  From apple trees planted 55 years ago in County Armagh to ice cream from Italy stretching back to 1911 the background to each of the businesses is both fascinating and an insight into their heritage. The exhibition was organised by the Northern Ireland Family Business Forum, HM’s longstanding partnership with UU’s Centre for Sustainable Family enterprise.  Thanks to Ian Smyth PhD , Louise O'Boyle and the team at UU for all the work involved. Most importantly a sincere thanks to those family businesses who exhibited. We are stronger together, there is so much we can learn from each other. It was an inspirational day and a privilege for HM to be involved with.   The exhibition is on until Wednesday this week at Birley Building at UU, we'd highly recommend calling in.
