At Mobius Associates, we want to create businesses that are forward thinking, with the ability to manage with long term thinking rather than short term, shareholders in mind. Creating a company for each of the water regions that is majority owned by the staff would allow the company to be run better, having Mobius Associates as the conduit between the businesses will allow them to share information and knowledge with each other in a collaborative way and having the government United Kingdom PLC as a minority owner in the company would allow some of the profits to be returned to the national purse rather than to foreign investors. Do you think Labour Party (UK) would get behind this initiative?
Creating a group of independent staff owned businesses that work collaboratively together to create better businesses. Using Employee Owned Trusts to create a legacy for the business owner.
Another report about the state of the UK water systems, this is bringing our water systems back to pre-privatisation where the government run industries were starved of cash to prove that privatisation was best for the country, I remember when swimming in open water was a little bit hit and miss. Sometimes you would be hit by a floater, sometimes missed. We have now gone full cycle and the complete failure of the private, foreign owned water industry has brought about calls for the industry to be nationalised again. What will happen, we will have a decade or so of great water supply, billions will be spent on upgrades and new systems, Bills will still have to go up to pay for it but it will be ok, because it is nationalised. Then, power will shift again, the water bill to the government will come under scrutiny again, then calls to privatise it will happen again. Governments will start to starve the industry of funds, inefficient practices will seep into the system, rivers and seas will be polluted again, and then calls for privatisation will grow. Back to the same cycle. Doing the same thing and expecting a different result is madness, or the in the case of the British government, standard operating procedure. We need a different way forward, not the same "Expletive" solution. It is time to stop the British exceptionalism and start looking at other countries that manage better, European countries do not privatise their national infrastructure, they set it up as community led business where the government is a shareholder, profits are used to boost the company not for shareholder gains. We could link this with the model proposed by us at Mobius Associates of having a Employee Owned Trust the majority shareholder in the business ensuring that decisions are best for all, the staff, the company, the customers and the ecology.
