The latest MiTek Mark 1 Easyjig Press with lasers has recently been installed at Crendon Timber Engineering Ltd, Dorchester, Dorset. Dave Thomas, Commercial Leader, EMEA Automation, MiTek, says: “The industry is moving towards automation for presses and this Mark 1 Easyjig Press at Crendon shows exactly what is possible. We have introduced newer software onto this press that will be fed across the wider group.” The trusses made on the Mark 1 will be designed with MiTek software, with output files to instruct the tables and the lasers. These are fully integrated software solutions that make the Mark 1 Easyjig Press the most up-to-date press on the market in the UK. For Crendon, it is an investment for the future – a 38-metre press, with two gantries, that new operators into the manufacturing process will be trained on. Ed Kirk, Crendon Operations, Innovation and Sustainability Director, says: “We’ve worked with the team at MiTek for many years. Its software, products and services have been integral to our journey and growth.” https://lnkd.in/eZq6ftNA #TimberEngineering #MiTek #MiTekmachinery #UKbuilding #UKhousebuilding #sustainability #Mark1Easyjig

We’re so proud to be a finalist for Building Magazine's #BuildingAwards Net Zero and Digital Excellence categories alongside Bellway Homes and Zehnder Group International AG for our collaboration on Bellway’s innovative Plot 256 project at its Barton Quarter development. The team took Plot 256 as a blank canvas to create high quality, low carbon homes utilising MVHR and offsite systems, which surpass Future Home Standards. Lessons learned can be applied to entire developments. Scaled up across hundreds of homes, CO2 savings will represent a major, tangible step towards a net zero industry. Congratulations to all the other finalists! We look forward to celebrating with you at the awards ceremony in November. #BuildingAwards

DEFRA’s Timber in Construction Roadmap addresses the timber supply chain and construction sector in the UK. It emphasises not only the use of home-grown timber but also the education and training required to build a workforce proficient in timber construction. MiTek, with the largest network of truss and Posi-Joist manufacturers in the UK and strong alliances with major housebuilders and the Structural Timber Association Ltd (STA), witnesses first hand the growing recognition of timber’s potential. Every day, we see timber construction being adopted as a viable strategy for reaching the 2050 Net Zero target. Timber-frame construction is revolutionising homebuilding, offering faster delivery of high-quality homes and embracing Modern Methods of Construction (MMC) on a large scale. MiTek’s innovative Posi-Joist system is testament to this, being actively used by housebuilders and test sites preparing for the Future Homes Standard, aligned with the Timber in Construction Roadmap. Posi-Joists feature in June’s issue of Professional Housebuilder & Property Developer, ‘Make a posi-tive change’. Luke Roberts, managing director of Donaldson Timber Engineering, explains the future of Posi-Joists in the UK market and how they can support the 2025 Future Homes Standard (FHS). He makes some great points regarding Posi-Joists being a cost-effective solution to supporting MVHR systems. “The combination of further industry adoption and the technical strengths of Posi-Joists will play a big part in raising the standard, while being able to meet the demand for new UK homes for years to come”. The latest Serpentine Pavilion has been unveiled and we’re big fans here at MiTek of what architect Minsuk Cho and his practice Mass Studies has created. We’re looking forward to visiting and immersing ourselves in one of the five modules that make up the Pavilion, particularly the ‘play tower’ and library of ‘unread books’. It’s great to see the extensive use of natural locally-sourced timber. Stained black throughout. It is reminiscent of the Black Chapel Pavilion, 2022’s Serpentine Gallery winner, designed by Theaster Gates. It was a privilege to work on Black Chapel with our partners Pasquill and help bring this complex structure to life to realise Gates’ vision.
