Low-cost direct air capture | Affordable at any scale | Bridging CO2 demand and supply
About us
We are reinventing carbon for a thriving planet. Since 2020, we've rapidly pioneered versatile Direct Air Capture (DAC) technology to remove historic CO₂ emissions from the atmosphere — anywhere, at any scale. Supported by Breakthrough Energy Ventures, the XPRIZE Foundation, Stripe, and the UK government, we've moved a brand new climate technology from lab to live commercial plant in under three years to rapidly empower carbon removal and utilisation pathways.

With atmospheric carbon dioxide levels continuing to break records, we must drastically cut global emissions — but this alone isn’t enough. That’s where direct air capture comes in. One of the most promising engineered carbon removal solutions, DAC has the power to pull historic emissions from the air to directly combat the climate crisis. So, how does direct air capture work, and why should we be paying attention? Learn more ↓

What’s the difference between liquid-capture and solid-capture in direct air capture? In any DAC process, air is pulled into the system and brought into contact with a reactive material that selectively binds CO₂. In liquid capture: → CO₂ from the air dissolves into a solution In solid capture: → CO₂ from the air clings to the surface of a solid material In both instances, any other molecules in the air are then released back into the atmosphere, limiting energy expenditure to what matters most — capturing carbon. Big news! Our direct air capture technology has officially reached Canada. 🇨🇦 Our first international project — and third DAC system — begins delivery and installation at our partner Deep Sky’s carbon removal innovation and commercialization centre in Innisfail, Alberta. Building on the deployment of our two UK-based DAC systems enabling carbon utilisation, this third system marks the first application of our technology for carbon removal. To understand what direct air capture is, it helps to understand what it isn’t. DAC is often misunderstood as being the same thing as point-source carbon capture — technologies which capture new CO₂ emissions from industrial processes before they enter the atmosphere. In contrast, direct air capture technologies recover historic CO₂ emissions already in our atmosphere and can operate virtually anywhere. The climate impact is fundamentally different: one solution avoids a new carbon emission, the other eliminates a historic one. Got more questions about direct air capture? We partner with people serious about making positive climate impact at scale. 🤝
Last week I presented Mission Zero Technologies to a group of 2150's LPs in Stockholm. Thanks for having me Jil Lindau, CFA ESG Christian Jølck and the wider 2150 team. In building and scaling DAC we have a responsibility to engage in the wider conversation around it whilst building it responsibly. A lot to do - but hopefully our intentions are clear.

Every day at our East London labs, we work to fight the climate crisis on a molecular level. 🧪 Today, Connie, a scientist at Mission Zero, shares what a typical day looks like in her lab coat. ?What does a scientist do at a DAC company? → My day-to-day is centred around our electrodialysis stack, which is a vital component in electrochemical DAC. Through a mix of theory and experimental data, my work in the lab has helped to shape our three first-of-a-kind projects. ?Why did you choose to work for a climate tech start-up? → Driving forward the development a new technology from the inside out means there’s always new problems to solve and learnings to take away each day. #DirectAirCapture #Scientist #Innovation #NetZero #ClimateTech
