SAFETY UNITED: We've joined forces with 4 other sector organisations to launch a major industry-wide initiative to improve health and safety. The new Strategic Safety Forum (SSF) for #Health and #Safety in the Mineral Products sector - launched today at #Hillhead24 - recognises the critical importance of sharing information and collaboration.   The MPA, BRITISH AGGREGATES ASSOCIATION, The Institute of Quarrying, Mineral Products Qualifications Council (MPQC) and QNJAC have come together to encourage cross-industry collaboration and deliver on a common purpose of a safe and healthy workforce.   Spanning the aggregates, asphalt, cement, concrete, precast and masonry, dimension stone, lime, mortar and industrial sand industries across the UK, the SSF will help to ensure that the sector achieves the highest possible standards in #healthandsafety as part of its collective and individual, legal and moral responsibility, so that everyone who engages with the sector is kept #safeandwell. So many positive comments received from the 30 students of New Mills School and Chapel-en-le-Frith High School who were our guests for the day at Hillhead - International quarrying, construction recycling show. Each of the students had expressed a desire to attend and it was clear from their insightful questions and advance research that they were keen to make the most of the opportunity. Launch of Strategic Safety Forum 5 sector organisations unite in Strategic Safety Forum - A major strategic initiative to improve health and safety in the mineral products industry recognises the critical importance of sharing information and collaboration. BRITISH AGGREGATES ASSOCIATION; The Institute of Quarrying; Mineral Products Association; Mineral Products Qualifications Council (MPQC) and QNJAC have come together as the Strategic Safety Forum (SSF) for Health and Safety in the Mineral Products Sector to facilitate and encourage collaboration and coordination between key sector organisations for the good of the industry and deliver on a common purpose. At the official public launch at Hillhead 2024, it was stated that this collaborative forum, spanning the ‘aggregates, asphalt, cement, concrete, precast and masonry, dimension stone, lime, mortar and industrial sand industries’ across the whole of the United Kingdom, will help to ensure that the Sector achieves the highest possible standards of performance in Health and Safety (H&S) as part of its collective and individual, legal and moral responsibility, so that everyone who engages with the Sector is kept safe and well. #HealthandSafety #Health #Safety #VisionZero #SafetyAtWork #MineralProducts

Last week Anna Jackson from Heidelberg Materials UK visited Rhosnesni High School in Wrexham, North Wales to talk to Year 10 students about Minerals and the Welsh language at a business speed networking event. It was great to visit the Big Bang Fair today at the NEC - National Exhibition Centre, delivered by our friends at EngineeringUK. The Big Bang Fair is a mix of hands-on activities, workshops and live shows, designed to inform and inspire young people aged 11 to 14 to learn more about careers in science, engineering and technology. Thank you to Moira Shaftoe for showing us round, it was great to get a feel for the show and also meet some of the Big Bang competition entries - such a fantastic group of engaged and enthusiastic students! Very inspiring day at University of Derby, Centre for Mineral Products, helping to assess the poster presentations from year one Higher Apprentices on a wide range of themes relevant to the mineral products sector.
