Yesterday, I had the opportunity to deliver a disability inclusion webinar for the Kubrick Group, sharing insights from my lived experience. The response from the audience was fantastic and reaffirmed the power of personal stories and practical advice in driving meaningful change. At the beginning of the session, I wanted to gauge the audience's confidence in engaging with someone with a disability. The initial results were: 47% rated themselves 5 or less out of 10, while 53% rated themselves 6 or more out of 10. This highlighted a significant opportunity for growth and learning. By the end of the session, after sharing my experiences and practical steps to improve confidence and engagement, the shift in responses was remarkable. Only 8% scored themselves 6 or less, and an impressive (if I say so myself) 92% scored themselves 7 or more. This transformation shows the impact of honest dialogue and actionable strategies. It's crucial for people to be open to hearing about disability inclusion and stories like mine. True inclusion demands more than passive acceptance! It requires active, informed engagement and a willingness to be vulnerable. This is why it is so important for us to see the value we get from stepping out of our comfort zones, learning more about the people around us, and recognising that this is how we create unstoppable inclusive change. Thank you to everyone at the Kubrick Group for your openness and willingness to learn. Your engagement and positive response are vital steps towards creating a more inclusive environment for all. Also, thank you to Dana James-Edwards for being an amazing host! #DisabilityInclusion #LivedExperience #Inclusion #Diversity #Empowerment #StoryTelling #Transformation

Here’s a little insight into what a team bonding day looks like Mildon! If you’re looking for an accessible experience, Frameless in Marble Arch, London is fantastic! Frameless partner with Special Educational Needs schools (SEN) and mainstream schools. They shared a case study which really moved us all: “one of our pupils who has been selectively non-verbal, turned to his teacher and said, I want to stay at Frameless forever'"' This was the first time the teacher had ever heard him speak.” Have you been on a really memorable team day, what made it special for you? #Team #TeamDay #work #edi #accessibility

As Disability Pride Month wraps up today, you've likely seen a flurry of posts online. But let’s cut through the fluff and recognise that our differences are not just a side note to who we are, they're our biggest assets. I am fiercely proud of my abilities and my identity as a person with a disability. This month celebrated disability, it wasn’t about pity or patronising pats on the back (even though this still happens). Do you even recognise the immense power and value that comes from your unique perspectives and talents? Let me be the one to tell you that the awesomeness of difference brings innovation, creativity, and a drive born from overcoming obstacles that most can't even imagine. Unfortunately, the reality is that too many still see disability as a limitation rather than a source of strength. This outdated mindset is a barrier to progress for all. Our differences drive success and propel organisations forward. If you are not actively seeking out and embracing diverse abilities, you're missing out… big time. Disability Pride Month has showcased countless stories of resilience and innovation from the disability community. As inspiring as they are, it should also be a wake-up call. It’s time for businesses, education, and communities to stop seeing disability as a checkbox on a compliance form and start seeing it as the powerhouse of potential that it truly is. Let me be clear, EVERYONE is a powerhouse. Our teams, communities and the global population are stronger because of the diverse talents and perspectives each individual brings to the table. I just wanted to highlight the contributions of people with disabilities today, but remember, that valuing diversity in all its forms is the key to unlocking potential and driving change. Inclusion means something, it’s a must-have if we want to have a sustainable future, and if you’re not part of the change, you’re part of the problem. Let’s break down the barriers and build a world where everyone’s unique abilities are recognised and valued. For me, this isn't just about one month or even a few months a year, it's my life every single day... I will ALWAYS continue to push boundaries, challenge norms, and contribute to creating a world where our differences are celebrated and encouraged for greater success. #DisabilityPrideMonth #Inclusion #Diversity #Empowerment #Pride #UniquePerspectives #BreakBarriers

Last week, I had the opportunity to participate in Mildon's “How to Be an Equitable Leader So Your Employees Can Thrive” webinar. Toby’s interactive model is engaging and facilitates strong self-reflection, as well as the development of action items to take back to each participant’s respective workplace. As a leader, I’ve found that tangible activities and interactive opportunities have a more noticeable impact on my team’s engagement with new or potentially challenging discussion topics. When we can process information outside of just auditory learning, the door tends to open up for more in-depth conversations and also meets the needs of different learning styles. Toby introduced multiple unique activity ideas & provided electronic resources I look forward to implementing in the future. I highly recommend signing up for webinars with Mildon; it’s always worth the early morning in the US to connect with the Mildon team in the UK! Looking forward to future education and connection opportunities with Toby Mildon, Brooklyn Norton, and Luis Canto E Castro!

Everyone, this is a real life example of how disability training can positively impact people’s lives. My colleague Luis hosted a disability workshop with an advocacy group and membership organisation. As always, we gather feedback afterwards, and this is what was said: “After the training, someone shared that they were dyslexic to a colleague. This person felt their colleague’s response was different to how it would have been before the workshop; the colleague asked, “How can I support you better?” which was a clear indicator that they’d been more thoughtful about how they respond.” Not everyone feels comfortable disclosing a disability.  This person chose not to tell a colleague about being dyslexic until they felt safe to do so. I’m incredibly proud that Luis’s disability training clearly helped 1 person feel more secure within their organisation. To arrange a disability session at your workplace, you can email Luis directly at [email protected] or drop me a message here on LinkedIn. #Disability #Dyslexia

On Thursday, I had the wonderful opportunity to speak at the Luminate Education Group Conference: Unlocking Potential. It was an action-packed experience, and I am deeply grateful for the chance to engage with such an enthusiastic and engaging audience. This ended up being a significant milestone for me, as it was the first time I spoke on five different topics across five different sessions all in one day! The discussions were rich and varied, covering essential themes such as: Disability Inclusion - We explored the importance of creating environments where everyone feels valued and included. True inclusion goes beyond physical accessibility and touches on the cultural and systemic changes needed to support all individuals fully. Attracting and Recruiting Disabled Talent - We discussed strategies to broaden recruitment efforts and create pathways for disabled individuals to enter the workforce. This involves rethinking traditional hiring practices and actively seeking diverse talent. Retaining and Developing Disabled Talent - Once we attract disabled talent, it’s crucial to support their growth and development. This means providing the necessary resources, mentorship, and opportunities for advancement. Fostering Inclusion - Creating an inclusive environment requires ongoing effort and commitment. We talked about the need for continuous education, awareness, and proactive policies that support inclusion at every level of the organisation. My Lived Experience as a Disabled Student - Sharing my journey highlighted the challenges and triumphs I've faced, providing a personal perspective on the importance of accessibility and support in educational settings. After all of this, a short (five hours) trip home… What a great way to spend a day! #UnlockingPotential #DisabilityInclusion #Diversity #Inclusion #TalentManagement #LivedExperience #EliminateEducationGroup
