We were pleased to welcome Dr. Jeevun Sandher, our local MP for Loughborough, Shepshed, and surrounding villages, to Mesothelioma UK today. CEO, Liz Darlison MBE DL shared insights into the essential work our charity and the mesothelioma community do, both locally and across the UK, to support patients and carers. We look forward to collaborating with Jeevun to further our mission.

Mesothelioma is not one of the main forms of lung cancer, but it is a cancer that can affect the lining covering the lungs (the pleura). This is called pleural mesothelioma. Exposure to asbestos is responsible for 9 out of 10 cases of mesothelioma and you don’t have to have worked directly with it to be at risk. It is important to raise awareness about the dangers posed by asbestos as exposure can result in an avoidable cancer often decades after exposure. If you have new or changes in symptoms such as cough and breathlessness that last more than a few weeks, please seek medical advice. "Most people with these symptoms will not have cancer, but it is advisable to get checked out to be sure,” says Leah Taylor, Head of Nursing, Mesothelioma UK. We were joined by patients, their families, industry experts, clinicians, lawyers and nurses for a fabulously sociable evening followed by a day of information, support and expert knowledge. Would you like to help with a research study ?    NIHR (National Institute for Health and Care Research) are assisting with the design of a new study. They are very keen to focus on the needs of the patient and their family so would like input from people who have lived experience (in the UK) of mesothelioma - as a patient or carer. Thank you to UK Asbestos Training Association - UKATA for inviting us to speak at their asbestos mock trial event yesterday. Our CEO, Liz Darlison MBE DL, spoke on behalf of Mesothelioma UK, with Corporate Relations and Fundraising Manager Jill Lemon and volunteer Nile in attendance.
