  • It’s not only medicine and technology that have advanced since maternity services and the Oliver Fisher Neonatal Unit moved from All Saints Hospital to Medway Maritime Hospital 25 years ago. Roles have evolved and the way the NHS grows its workforce has changed too. Among the many new roles created in midwifery and nursing since 1999 are the Digital Midwife and the Practice Development Nurse (PDN). Midwifery degree apprenticeships are also helping maternity support workers (MSWs) and adult nurses make their dreams of becoming a midwife a reality. • Three-and-a-half-year-old Welsh Terrier Jarvis, is our latest recruit as a hospital therapy dog, and is helping to bring comfort and happiness to patients, visitors and staff on his regular visits to the hospital’s wards. He and his owner Graham aim to pop into the hospital twice a week. Graham said "I’m really touched by the impact Jarvis and the other therapy dogs have on the patients and staff we’ve encountered. It’s a pleasure to spread a little of the joy, I and my family get from Jarvis, with my wider local community.” Read more about Jarvis in our latest edition of News@Medway. https://orlo.uk/pHfEL If you would like to join our team of volunteers or therapy dog team, please contact our Voluntary Services Team: Zoe Goodman, Voluntary Services Manager on 01634 825246 or [email protected].

  • We’re pleased to announce that we now offer a new test that women can carry out in the comfort of their home to screen for gestational diabetes during pregnancy. The remote oral glucose tolerance testing kit GTT@home, created by Digostics, allows at risk pregnant women to carry out the test at home, at a time that is convenient to them, meaning the test can carried out without delay, treatment can be started earlier and managed if gestational diabetes is detected to help keep both mum and baby safe. • If you use a wheelchair during your visit to the hospital, please return it to main reception when you are leaving. A lack of wheelchairs can have a significant impact on other patients. If you are unable to return your wheelchair, just let a member of staff or volunteer know.
