Clinical Governance Director at Medivet and Mum of One :)

If you'd had told me ten years ago I would be sat at a table of colleagues who I respect enormously at the House of Lords discussing Animal Welfare I would never have believed you! I was so honoured that Medivet chose me as their representative at THE VETERINARY POLICY RESEARCH FOUNDATION's annual dinner. The foundation is instrumental in ensuring that animal welfare, the veterinary industry and public health issues are raised and discussed in parliament. If you are a meat-eating or animal-owning member of the public it will touch your life in some way or another. I could not be prouder to have spoken about our view of a diverse and inclusive profession for all, including some of our pioneering work with University of Central Lancashire with some incredible colleagues who also agreed that making sure improving accesability to training is key to the future of the profession. I was also delighted to meet Fiona Shuttleworth, an inspirational veterinary surgeon who is a parliamentary intern supported by Lord Trees. I was struck by the diverse range of ways a veterinary degree equips us for making change. Thank you so much for the invitation, I will cherish the memories of an evening with some of my role models enormously! #medivetlife #houseoflords #veterinarymedicine

As part of our continued efforts to raise funds to support our long-time charity partner, Wilderness Foundation Africa , our incredible Medivet team took on the challenge of climbing Yr Wyddfa on Saturday, 5th October. At the summit, an emotional moment unfolded as the team FaceTimed with Dr. Will Fowlds, an ex-Medivet Vet and now a Wildlife Vet and rhino hero. Hearing that they had treated a rhino that very morning brought the impact of our fundraising efforts into sharp focus – it was a powerful reminder of how the funds we raise are making a tangible difference. A huge congratulations to our inspiring colleagues for their dedication and perseverance! We’re thrilled to share that thanks for their efforts, we’ve hit our £5,000 fundraising milestone 🎉 But the journey doesn’t stop here. You can still contribute to be part of this incredible cause to protect our wildlife. At Medivet, we’re incredibly proud to support initiatives like this. It is important that everyone has equal access to the tools to help them succeed and we’re proud to be able to support the future veterinary professionals at University of Central Lancashire School of Veterinary Medicine. Pete Holland, Heather Bacon and the team do an incredible job at supporting students to provide a safe, inclusive environment. #Medivet #UCLAN

Associate Dean (Partnerships & Enterprise) School of Veterinary Medicine

As part of our widening participation strategy and in an effort to combat digital poverty, our BVMS students collected their free iPads this week at the University of Central Lancashire School of Veterinary Medicine; ensuring that all have access to essential tools and teaching technologies to support their educational journey. Many thanks to Medivet for their financial support of this initiative, alongside other projects which allow us to realise some of our widening participation goals, and support those students that need additional help. And a special thank you to Rhian Littlehales who has been a passionate supporter of our School since it's inception, and vocal advocate for widening participation and equality in our profession.

Clinical Governance Director at Medivet and Mum of One :)

Last week was a very busy week! At the end of the week, I was delighted to spend more time at the University of Central Lancashire, meeting with the team to talk about more ways that Medivet can support their mission of making a career in Veterinary Medicine accessible to all, regardless of their background. One of the ways that we do this already is by providing a full tuition fee sponsorship to a prospective student in need. The scholarship committee met last week, and I am delighted to say that I know the student in receipt of this support will benefit from it immensely. We also offer hardship funds to all students, as well as supporting the digital device library to reduce the impact of digital poverty, providing lecturers, intra-mural study placements and so much more. I was then honoured to be invited to the Vice Chancellors dinner. I was sat on the Veterinary Medicine table which was hosted by an absolute inspirational woman and a professional role model to me- Heather Bacon. Heather not only has given so much vital research and support that has advanced animal welfare, but she shares a passion of mine to give back to a profession that has given so much to her, by supporting the vets of tomorrow. It was such a lovely evening and I would be lying if I didn't say that I had a little tear in my eye when the vice-chancellor thanked us for our support in his speech- it reminded me what a difference our two organisations are making to this fantastic profession by working together. #medivetlife #veterinarymedicine #students #vetschool #universityofcentrallancashire #makeadifference

Yesterday was World Rhino Day and here at Medivet, we’re proud to support the Wilderness Foundation Africa and its Forever Wild Campaign – working for over 50 years to create a safe stronghold for rhinos and other indigenous species to address the number of rhinos harmed each day. Dr Will Fowlds shared a little more with us about the Wilderness Foundation and how our donations and support is helping address these issues. Let's raise awareness and work together to protect their future. If you’d like to contribute to help with the conservation of these incredible animals, you can donate here: https://lnkd.in/eyKNV2jw #WorldRhinoDay #WildernessFoundation #WildRhinoProtection #Medivet
