We recently took our good friends New England Seafood over to Norway for a trip out to visit the innovative Norcod AS farm based in mid-Norway, on the island of Frøya at Jamnungen. With constant pressure on Norwegian quota and wild stocks, Sirena Group and Maris Seafoods Ltd continue to form partnerships with clients such as NESI, who recognise the strategic advantage of integrating farmed cod into their business model for sustainable future-proofing. Norcod are doing an incredible job of rearing a premium product with their Snow Cod, which will play a crucial role in supply for UK retail and Foodservice for many years to come with consistent supply and pricing alongside its incredible sustainability credentials. All of this obviously means nothing if the product doesn’t also taste great and we were honoured to have the amazing To Rom og Kjøkken present us with a four-course meal of Snow cod that was simply outstanding. Thank you to Tsjipke Deuzeman for relaying some invaluable knowledge, and Henrik Frahm Riemandsgaard for accompanying us throughout the visit. To showcase that, Maris Seafoods Ltd and The Chefs' Forum hosted a Sustainability Luncheon in London. Chefs and leaders across retail, e-commerce, and the foodservice industry gathered to discuss the latest in #FishSustainability while enjoying a menu that included Australis Aquaculture’s The Better Fish Barramundi. Jacqueline Pfyl represented Fair Trade USA at the event and spoke to how #FairTradeCertified seafood products, like the Barramundi served, help companies meet #ESG goals and consumer demand. She discussed challenges in the aquaculture industry and how the Fair Trade program can be part of the solution to create more transparent supply chains, prevent labor exploitation, foster safe working conditions, and protect ecosystems. “Conscious consumers recognise that when they see the #FairTradeCertified label on a product it has met a set of rigorous standards supporting sustainable and responsible consumption and production, making it easier for them to choose items that align with their values.
