March through the streets as part of the Parade! 📣🏳️🌈🏳️⚧️ We're looking for creative and expressive volunteers to represent Manchester Pride and be part of our Parade Troupe ✨ From the huge anti-Section 28 protest held on the streets of Manchester in the 1980s to the colourful march we know and love today, the Manchester Pride Parade is one of the largest LGBTQ demonstrations in the world as the city continues to lead the way in the fight for LGBTQ equality 🌈 As part of the Parade Troupe, volunteers will attend creative workshops to learn the art of costume and prop making, dance and more, before joining us on Saturday 24th August as Manchester Pride’s official Parade entry. We’ll be marching proudly in celebration of this year’s Parade theme ‘Buzzin’ to Be Queer: A Hive of Progress’, representing the hard work that has defined the city's history and embodying the spirit of working harmoniously to create positive change and progress for LGBTQ people everywhere 🐝 Make history with us and join the Parade Troupe at: https://lnkd.in/e58GzmWE The Parade is proudly sponsored by Moxy Hotels and our Parade Troupe volunteers are kindly sponsored by Starbucks ✨ . . . Special thanks must go to all the organisers for teaching us, costumes and looking after us. We should all be so so proud.” ~ Parade Troupe member. 3. Yesterday, Isobel Stainsbury and Dr. Christopher Owen delivered a talk and panel discussion for pro-manchester. The event was a chance for audiences to find out more about the work we do all year round to support LGBTQ people in Greater Manchester. Joined by some of the incredible businesses we work with, people heard first hand, about the impact our work together has had on their organisation. #PrideMonth #ManchesterPride

📣 THE FIRST PRIDE WAS A RIOT 🏳️🌈🏳️⚧️ 55 years ago today on 28th June 1969, the Stonewall Riots sparked the beginning of the gay liberation movement, giving the LGBTQ rights movement widespread visibility and empowering thousands to protest for equality. Hundreds of thousands of queer people and allies have been coming together in the streets of Manchester to celebrate and protest in support of queer life for the last 40 years. With this year’s Manchester Pride Parade theme ‘Buzzin’ to be Queer - A Hive of Progress’, we celebrate not only the hard work that has defined the city’s history, but the impact of our collective action and the city’s ongoing commitment to progress, inclusivity, and equality that Manchester Pride champions 🐝 Join us at the Manchester Pride Parade proudly sponsored by Moxy Hotels on Saturday 24th August 2024 as we protest and celebrate diversity, unity and the vibrant energy of Manchester, buzzing together toward a brighter future 🌞 Find out more and APPLY to take part at: manchesterpride.com/parade ✨ . . . Are you registered to vote? 📣🗳️ More than 4 million young people aged 18-35 aren't registered to vote, meaning they can't have a say on who runs the country by casting their vote in the upcoming general election. Many young LGBTQ people are disproportionately affected by the Cost of Living Crisis, leaving people worried about their future job prospects and experiencing poor mental health. When people don't engage in elections, political parties are less inclined to represent their interests, so it’s really important to use your voice and vote for the future you want to see for you and other young LGBTQ people across the country. Registration is easy and takes around 5 minutes to complete online. The deadline to register is 11:59 next Tuesday 18th June 2024 - register to vote now: https://lnkd.in/dBR7ZwQ

Today marks 70 years since the tragic death of Alan Turing. Alan Turing was a pioneering computer scientist, codebreaker and mathematician based at Manchester University, best known for his pivotal role in breaking the German Enigma code. Turing was prosecuted for homosexual acts in 1952, and died a ‘criminal’ in 1954 after being subjected to a barbaric form of conversion therapy simply for being gay. The Alan Turing statue sits in Manchester’s Sackville Gardens in the Gay Village. In 2021, we were proud to rename our Sackville Gardens Gay Village Party stage the 'Alan Turing Stage', celebrating Alan Turing’s memory and his legacy. We can’t wait to welcome another fantastic line-up of LGBTQ talent to the Alan Turing Stage, and to also hold our Candlelit Vigil here once again on Monday 26th August as we take a moment to remember those we've lost to HIV, and recognise the ongoing persecution of LGBTQ people at home and overseas. We hope Alan would be as proud of the Gay Village Party as we are 🩷
