It has been nearly two weeks since the Autumn Budget and, in the time since, Make UK’s policy, government affairs and membership teams have been on the ground, speaking with members at regional advisory boards and awards dinners to hear your honest feedback. While there are some positives to take: on industrial strategy; incentives like full expensing; and Made Smarter - understandably, it’s the National Insurance contributions increase and lowering of the thresholds that is at the forefront of your minds. And we hear your concerns, which is why on Friday, 22nd November at 10am, Make UK will hold a webinar exclusively for Make UK members to discuss how we will be responding to the Budget and continuing to support our members with our advocacy and representation and practice advice and guidance. Our COO Ben Fletcher will be answering members' questions and giving an insight into our campaigning priorities for the rest of the year and into 2025. 'If you can’t see it, be it' Alexia Williams This really summed up Alexia’s inspiring speech well after sharing her notable achievements in a predominantly male industry. Alexia found that she was often the only female in much of her career pathway, and as she’s been trailblazing her way forward she’s found sometimes she’s the first person to take on new roles as they arise. Congratulations to our South champions and all finalists! 🏆 Your hard work and innovation are setting new standards in the industry, leaving a lasting impression on our judges with the remarkable caliber of this year’s entries. "A [industrial] strategy that's already won the backing of Make UK, who told us that businesses will no longer have to fear the constant chop and change in policy we've seen over the last decade." Business and Trade Secretary Jonathan Reynolds MP speaking in the House of Commons on Wednesday, highlighting the key messaging that Make UK has regularly passed on to the Government, both while in opposition and in power, on behalf of the sector. Don't forget, the Government's 'Industry 2035' consultation on their proposed industrial strategy is still open. You can share your suggestions, feedback and evidence here 🔗 https://lnkd.in/ecqGkt7i (closes 24 November). #IndustrialStrategy #UKmfg Verity Davidge Ben Fletcher

Make UK reposted this
Ahead of the Plaid Cymru Party Conference I was delighted to attend a business reception this evening on behalf of Make UK . We heard from the party leader Rhun ap Iorwerth on his vision and passion for bringing prosperity to Wales. We also heard from Luke Fletcher on his vision for economic growth, it was reassuring to hear their support for an industrial strategy. The highlight of the evening was a heartfelt speech by Lord Dafydd Wigley recollecting his time working for Hoovers in Merthyr Tydfil in the 1980s when thousands were employed there. His passion for #Wales is palpable. It will be interesting to hear more on Plaid Cymru's plans for the country over the next few days. Harvey McCabe #plaidcymru
