Civic and Social Organizations
We want to see thriving community, creativity and innovation in Oxfordshire’s once empty and underused spaces.
About us
Our mission is to revive, repurpose and transform empty and underused spaces in Oxfordshire, into affordable, community driven workspaces / work hubs; nurturing connection and support for social enterprises, creatives, makers and doers, committed to positive social change. We are progressive, re-centring the conversation of space around people over profit, and the innovative responses that promote systems change and strong collective action. We listen to and work in solidarity with partners and our wider community to achieve positive social change in Oxfordshire, with a focus on community empowerment, inequality, the climate emergency and homelessness. We also make ethical decisions about how we work together and use resources based on sustainability and our respect for the environment and each other, and we adapt and respond to change and new opportunities to ensure we learn, improve, and remain nimble, whilst moving forward with confidence.

✨ We did it! ✨ Now it’s time to take George Street to the next level… Last month Oxford City Council approved the plans for redeveloping 38-40 George Street, marking a key milestone for us as we work to establish our first long-term civic space - an inclusive, accessible hub for Oxford’s community. We’re so excited to transform this vision into reality, building a space where everyone in Oxford can connect, create, and thrive. 📖 Get the full story in our latest blog: https://lnkd.in/eGMZtXeM

THIS WEEK 👉 'Show me the money: making thought leadership pay' Thought leadership is a massively overused phrase in marketing, and often people don't even really know what they mean by it, or what they want to get out of it 🤦 But when it's done right it's not just some wishy-washy bit of marketing jargon - it's a serious tool for growing your brand and its bottom line. So at this week's Marketing Camp Claire Douglas and Emma Duke will be spilling the beans on exactly how your company can use both people and content to establish authority in your industry, for results you can measure 💰 We'll kick off by looking at exactly what a thought-leadership campaign is and why it can be valuable, learning how to set clear goals and get buy-in (and investment) from across the organisation. Then we'll focus on how your company can actually be a thought leader in your space - what good campaigns might look like, who to involve, and how to get (and keep) people's attention. And finally we'll think about how you can track and demonstrate ROI, learn from the work for next time, and put the results to good use for the wider business 📈 📅 THIS Thursday 7th Nov, 6pm 🏠 Makespace Oxford, Aristotle Lane, Jericho 🧠 Our host and mastermind Bethany Joy 👇 More info and link to book your FREE spot in comments See you around the campfire? 🔥 #MarketingCampOx #MarketingTips #Oxfordshire

We can't wait for you to join us on this journey to provide a long-term space in the heart of Oxford. Thanks to all who have worked so tirelessly in making this dream come true 😍
Last week, I spoke at the planning committee meeting at Oxford City Council alongside Andrew Heselton where plans for redeveloping 38 - 40 George Street were approved 🎉 It felt wonderful; the team and I have been working so hard on this major milestone moment. George Street welcomes our first opportunity to unlock a long-term, purpose-built, civic space after years (and continuing work) on temporary buildings as part of Meanwhile in Oxfordshire. For almost 7 years, we've been providing secure, affordable accommodation for hundreds of purpose-driven groups, and now with George Street, we can build on that legacy, but with a long-term horizon for all to enjoy and shape. So, now the next phase of the fun begins and we can't wait for you to join us. We'll be sharing our plans with you soon, where you ask the questions, as well as dream the answers! Stay in the loop about George Street and read what we've been up to here: https://lnkd.in/ea_2DeyF With thanks to the team at Makespace Oxford, the skilful design work of Jan Kattein and Corina Tuna (and this beautiful image), the support from Marick Real Estate Oxford City Council Staycity Group, our Community Advisory Board and the dozens who have helped to guide and co-create the vision so far... This is just the beginning!
