👏 A big thank you to EY for hosting and chairing our excellent roundtable discussion 'How to leverage private finance to deliver (stuck) regional infrastructure projects' in their Manchester office yesterday. 💷 The insights and ideas expressed will feed into our September seminar 'Moving on from PFI - Innovative ways to Fund and Finance Major Infrastructure'. Director | Sustainable Infrastructure (EY UK) | Passionate about helping clients deliver sustainable infrastructure. Trusted industry leader with 20-yrs of achieving client successes & society benefits cross-sector.

🌟 Exciting Reflections from the MPA Event at EY Manchester! 🌟 Real privilege for #EY to host and chair the #MPA event, "How to leverage private finance to deliver (stuck) regional infrastructure projects", at our Manchester office yesterday. Wonderful engagement with a diverse mix of clients, consultants, contractors, and industry bodies all contributing to a rich and fascinating roundtable discussion. My key takeaways: 1️⃣ 💰 Private finance is keen and ready to invest. However, it requires a transparent pipeline of viable projects backed by political support. Understanding the risks and having clear strategies for revenue generation are crucial for their repayment assurances. 2️⃣ 🏙 When it comes to modelling financial benefits, Greater London and the SE has a comparative advantage due to its economic density. In contrast, the North of England presents more of an economic growth scenario, which necessitates a different approach. 3️⃣ 🤝 Collaboration over competition is key. We must steer clear of a zero-sum mindset across local authorities, regions, and central government. The focus should be on outcomes and the role each will play in achieving them. Before even considering cash, it's essential for each to understand the financing tools they have and how they'll collaborate to foster success. Looking forward to further conversations throughout the year and to turn these insights into action for a more connected and prosperous future! #EY #Infrastructure #PrivateFinance #RegionalDevelopment #majorprojects #Collaboration #Manchester #MPAevent #buildingabetterworkingworld Kamal I Patel Emma Bradshaw Stephen Church Georgina Knockton Graham Wright Becky Wood FCA, FICEAndrea Powell Andy Murray Sascha Flint Manon Bradley Stephanie Tisdall Henri Murison

This morning, we published the #LondonClimateResilienceReview, an independent report to the Mayor of London looking at how well-prepared London is for more frequent and severe #heatwaves, #floods, #storms, #droughts, #wildfires and other #climate risks. https://lnkd.in/e9ih3Gzi We are entering a new era. In 2024, even as El Niño fades, we are set for another record-breaking year of deadly heatwaves, wildfires and storms. In the last year, floods in the UK have upended lives and battered local economies. The Mayor of London took a world-leading step by calling for an independent review of London’s climate resilience. The health and security of Londoners and the health of the national economy are inseparable. This is a reset moment for efforts to increase the UK’s stability in the face of global climate disruption. As the new government takes action to end the cost-of-living crisis, protecting the lives and livelihoods of working people from extreme weather is non-negotiable. We spoke to individuals, communities and organisations including the NHS, Transport for London, London Fire Brigade, the Metropolitan Police, Borough Councils, the GLA, UK government, NGOs, the financial services sector, sports and cultural institutions as well as representatives of vulnerable groups. We have made 50 recommendations for action to get ahead of climate risks in London and other cities around the world. • 👉 Join us at our roundtable discussion: 'How to leverage private finance to deliver (stuck) regional infrastructure projects' 📆 Wednesday 24th July 2024 🕒 3:00pm - 5:00pm 📍 Manchester As a feeder to our September seminar 'Moving on from PFI - Innovative ways to fund and finance major infrastructure' we are holding a roundtable discussion event in Manchester which looks at how private finance can help projects that would otherwise struggle to 'get to yes' if financed by the Exchequer alone. 💷 We will explore lessons learned on securing financing and funding for infrastructure projects (whether public, private or in combination) from a regional perspective. We will look at projects that have been ‘stuck’ in the pre-investment phase as it looks to attract finance from different sources and, with reference to the recommendations in the second National Infrastructure Assessment, as well as a number of live cases, explore: What is the main reason for projects getting 'stuck' in the pre-investment phase? Where funding is the main issue, what project characteristics are needed to attract private finance? What are the other hurdles to help infrastructure projects ‘get to yes’? The ideas and (any) conclusions from this session will feed into the seminar in September. ➡ Register for this roundtable here: https://lnkd.in/eGWUz4vQ Andy Murray Manon Bradley Sascha Flint #majorprojects #mpaevent #infrastructureprojects #privatefinance

  • 📣 Join us at our upcoming virtual seminar: 'Governance, cooperation and coordination in large inter-organisational projects: A multi-level approach'. 📆 Wednesday 21st August 2024 🕦 11:45am - 1:30pm Effective project governance is essential for the success of major infrastructure projects, which typically involve numerous organisations working together. This research explores the governance of these inter-organisational relationships, focusing on understanding the interplay between governance, cooperation, and coordination. By adopting a multi-level perspective, our study unpacks the different governance, cooperation and coordination mechanisms and provides a framework for dynamically analysing these constructs throughout the project lifecycle. This approach can assist project practitioners in understanding and managing the complex interactions, which in turn are critical for delivering successful project outcomes. In this seminar, you will learn  🔹 How governance interacts with cooperation and coordination. 🔹 The key governance, cooperation and coordination mechanisms. 🔹 How to design a governance structure that factors in the complex interaction of governance, cooperation and coordination. 🔹 How to compare the governance of different projects.   💡 Join us to explore the theoretical foundations and practical applications of governance, cooperation, and coordination, and discover how the proposed framework can enhance governance to drive a collaborative environment and better project results.   Our speaker will be Mohamad El Tannir who is currently a Lecturer at London South Bank University (LSBU). With over 8 years of experience in diverse roles, Mohamad has worked on several large projects as a civil engineer and cost consultant. Additionally, he has served as a project manager and product owner in a software startup. ➡ Register here: https://lnkd.in/eSMGuxEt Andy Murray Manon Bradley Ellie Gregory Sascha Flint #majorprojects #projectgovernance #projectmanagement
