Over the weekend, Tam Wilford from our Net-Zero Transition team attended Latitude festival where she was given a tour of GeoPura’s hydrogen-powered generator which provided power for the festival’s emergency and welfare centre. Fuelled by hydrogen, the only emission was water. GeoPura does some fantastic work in this space, including recently powering the Rugby Touch World Cup in Nottingham. Not only does this mean events can be powered by a supply of clean energy, but that local air quality is improved, ultimately bettering the health of visitors and the local community ♻   #hydrogen #LatitudeFestival #zeroemissions

Had a wonderful couple of days at Farnborough International this week supporting clients, speaking with government stakeholders and squeezing in an air display or two!   It was great to be on site to support Hybrid Air Vehicles Ltd at their South Yorkshire Reception with City of Doncaster Council and the South Yorkshire Mayoral Combined Authority. Also great to see so many interested in our zero-emissions regional aviation panel chaired by Tony Anderson, with participants from Air Nostrum and HITRANS, discussing the role that Airlander has to play in shaping the future of low carbon aviation.   Feeling grateful for all of the stakeholders who reinforced their commitment to support UK-based projects that will pave the way for the #FutureOfFlight #FIA2024

The Labour Government has made clear its commitment to furthering net-zero and better establishing energy security in the UK. Yesterday was further demonstration to that effect with the Department for Energy Security and Net Zero announcing the details of GB Energy with the formal launch of the organisation and the naming of the Chair, Juergen Maier CBE FRS FREng   The Great British Energy Bill, which was introduced in the House of Commons yesterday, will support the creation of the new publicly owned company and ensure it has access to necessary finances. GB Energy will partner with the Crown Estate (CE) and Crown Estate-owned seabed will be leased for offshore wind farms, which will then be built through partnerships between GB Energy and private companies.   So how will it work? It was a pleasure to be at Farnborough International this week with my Madano colleagues Benjamin and Sara speaking with aviation stakeholders and supporting clients. Aviation decarbonisation, including the role of sustainable aviation fuels and greenhouse gas removals among various pathways, were major discussion points. It was great to spend time with the Carbon Engineering and 1PointFive teams at their stand and discuss the role of direct air capture in the 'jet zero' journey with ministers and policymakers. #FIA2024

‘Being a good steward for the concept of patient centricity’ 🔎 decentralised clinical trials 🎇Decentralised clinical trials can help wider accessibility and diversity but they are not a panacea without challenges or watch outs. 📳Accounting for a variety of patient needs in designing protocol and noting that a patient’s QoL and mindset may not be static. You may have built in EPROs or EPREMs to be completed on patients smartphones into the protocol to aid efficiency and ease, but stop and think can you do this in all situations. E.g. somebody that has cluster headaches to stop and grab their iPhone to give a rating on a one to 10 scale for the headaches they’re experiencing. 💪🏼Patient reported confidence and self efficacy being considered in context of deploying these patient reported outcomes in the digital health tools arena in clinical care as well as in clinical trials - how we use technology to make clinical trials better not only from an efficiency standpoint but also from an empathy standpoint. 💡Archana Sah MS (Pharm.), PMP referenced an example presented recently at ASCO regarding increased tech usage in trials, where investigators measured how confident their patients were in the real world setting with these technologies and also their desire to manage their symptoms in real time using these technologies in conjunction and in collaboration with their treating physician and their team was also an equally important factor in their success 📝consent needs to go beyond the signature process and should be an ongoing conversation. Important to think about how to iterate on consent and where new FDA guidance on key elements of consent might factor in Just a few snippets from Decentralized Trials & Research Alliance (DTRA) TGIF session. Thanks also to Alicia C. Staley for sharing her personal journey from Aerospace engineering to her role in Patient Engagement at Medidata and championing patient centricity. Always interesting to hear how people’s personal experience of illness have such a profound impact on the way we approach and view our work. In 2023, AVENIR GLOBAL brands in Europe and the Middle East, including AXON, Cherry, Hanover Communications, and Madano, set a goal to achieve carbon neutrality by 2040. We are aiming for a 70% reduction in Scope 1 and 2 emissions by 2030 and a 25% reduction in Scope 3 emissions. Here’s Tam Wilford, Account Director in our Net Zero Transition team, who worked on the initiative, giving an overview of what we have achieved, including a 67% reduction in Scope 1 and 2 emissions in the first year, just 3% shy of our 2030 target. But there is still more to be done. To meet our 2040 goal, our EMEA businesses have outlined a carbon reduction strategy, which includes: 👉Optimising energy use in buildings 👉Replacing high-carbon refrigerants 👉Developing low-carbon catering, electronics, and travel policies 👉Exploring carbon removal opportunities 👉Creating a task force to oversee these initiatives Looking forward to sharing more as we continue on our sustainability journey. #carbonreduction #netzero #decarbonisation
