This week’s #FeaturedFriday shines the spotlight on Harry Borovick, author of “𝗔𝗜 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗟𝗮𝘄: 𝗔 𝗣𝗿𝗮𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗰𝗮𝗹 𝗚𝘂𝗶𝗱𝗲 𝘁𝗼 𝗨𝘀𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗔𝗿𝘁𝗶𝗳𝗶𝗰𝗶𝗮𝗹 𝗜𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗹𝗹𝗶𝗴𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗲 𝗦𝗮𝗳𝗲𝗹𝘆.” He shared a bit about his inspiration and writing experience:  𝗤: 𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝘄𝗮𝘀 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗺𝗮𝗶𝗻 𝗿𝗲𝗮𝘀𝗼𝗻/𝗶𝗻𝘀𝗽𝗶𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝘄𝗿𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘁𝗵𝗶𝘀 𝗯𝗼𝗼𝗸? “I simply couldn’t find anything out there which was aimed at the most ordinary reader, who may just want to use some #AI in their day-to-day life without stepping on a figurative landmine. There are amazing lawyer-focused books, or technical books on AI—but definitely a greater home for a book that aims to empower a typical member of the public.” 𝗤: 𝗗𝗲𝘀𝗰𝗿𝗶𝗯𝗲 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝘄𝗿𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗽𝗿𝗼𝗰𝗲𝘀𝘀... “Collaboration for me was key. I first researched, and spoke with colleagues and subject matter experts. Then, I focused on writing in bursts. Particularly very early mornings before work, and on weekends. Later, coming back to chapters with a fresh eyes trying to emulate readers in order to fill in gaps.” 𝗤: 𝗡𝗼𝘄 𝘁𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗶𝘁'𝘀 𝗳𝗶𝗻𝗶𝘀𝗵𝗲𝗱, 𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗿𝗲 𝘁𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗴𝘀 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝘄𝗼𝘂𝗹𝗱 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝗽𝗹𝗮𝗻 𝗱𝗶𝗳𝗳𝗲𝗿𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗹𝘆 𝗶𝗳 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝘀𝘁𝗮𝗿𝘁𝗲𝗱 𝗮𝗴𝗮𝗶𝗻? “It’s impossible to cover every topic or every subject within an overarching matter as substantial and fast-moving as AI. However, if I could do it again, I would increase the consideration of health and wellbeing as well as ethics—whether that is related to AI in autonomous vehicles, or in matters of defense and security.” 𝗤: 𝗛𝗼𝘄 𝗱𝗶𝗱 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝗳𝗶𝗻𝗱 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝘁𝗶𝗺𝗲 𝘁𝗼 𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗽𝗹𝗲𝘁𝗲 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗯𝗼𝗼𝗸? 𝗪𝗼𝘂𝗹𝗱 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝘄𝗿𝗶𝘁𝗲 𝗮𝗻𝗼𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗿? “Early mornings, weekends, holidays, and a very patient and supportive partner—to whom the book is dedicated.   And after a good, long, break! But, if so, I’d be inspired to write something more focused on responsibility and ethics around AI. That will be the next frontier of human self-understanding and is full of challenging moral questions.” 𝗤: 𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗶𝘀 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗳𝗮𝘃𝗼𝗿𝗶𝘁𝗲 𝗯𝗼𝗼𝗸? 𝗙𝗮𝘃𝗼𝗿𝗶𝘁𝗲 𝗮𝘂𝘁𝗵𝗼𝗿? “𝘛𝘩𝘪𝘯𝘬𝘪𝘯𝘨, 𝘍𝘢𝘴𝘵 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘚𝘭𝘰𝘸 by Daniel Kahneman.
