Updates

  • In May 2024, our advanced trauma team attended to 177 patients. This is 25 more patients than the previous month. These individuals were so critically injured that they did not have time to get to hospital. Our team are operational 24/7, 365 days a year and attend to anywhere within the M25. During May, we attended to the boroughs of Haringey and Lambeth more than anywhere else, followed by Westminster. Read May’s mission report: https://lnkd.in/eKrnkyKb

  • It's #InternationalParamedicsDay 🚑 DYK our flight paramedics join us on a 12-month secondment with our service from London Ambulance Service NHS Trust? In addition to providing life-saving pre-hospital care as part of London’s Air Ambulance’s advanced trauma team, and driving the rapid response cars, part of a paramedic’s role is to operate from the control room. Here they are responsible for dispatching London’s Air Ambulance to the most critically injured people in London, 24 hours a day - an integral part of saving lives across London.

  • We have two opportunities to join The Institute of Pre-Hospital Care team as Institute Coordinators. The Institute Coordinators will work closely with our clinical and operational teams, along with our university colleagues and degrees faculty. Reporting to the Institute’s Clinical/Degree Courses Officers, the coordinators will support the delivery of the Clinical/Degree course programmes. The post holder will be a highly organised and experienced administrator with a can-do attitude, meticulous attention to detail and excellent communication skill. • Last week, Ben West – a mental health campaigner – visited our helipad atop The Royal London Hospital. In 2018, Ben unexpectedly lost his younger brother, Sam, to suicide. After Sam died, Ben found the strength to learn and campaign about mental health and continues to help others do the same today. During his visit, he spoke with our Patient Liaison Nurse, Frank, about how we can open up the conversation around death and bereavement – a topic that is often avoided. In 2023, we released our bereavement booklet, 12 memories of sudden and unexpected loss, with this aim too. We hope the resource will be a guide and solace to anyone who might need it and we look forward to working more with Ben in the future. If you’d like to read our booklet, you can do so here: https://lnkd.in/e962PFwg

  • Yesterday we announced our partnership with Omaze UK. Now it's time to tell you why we have partnered with Omaze, along with David Beckham, who is backing the London House Draw. Every day in London, five people are so seriously injured that they need advanced medical treatment at the scene to survive. When there’s no time to reach a hospital, London’s Air Ambulance brings the hospital to the patient, able to perform life-saving interventions such as blood transfusions, and open chest surgery to help save a life. Just by entering the London House Draw, participants will be supporting our urgent #UpAgainstTime appeal to fund two life-saving helicopters and keep them flying for years to come. • Today, we announced the launch of our partnership with Omaze UK for their biggest ever house draw. By entering the Omaze Million Pound House Draw, participants will be in with the chance to win a stunning property in London, worth over £5,000,000 along with an incredible £250,000 in cash. And in doing so, they will also be supporting our urgent #UpAgainstTime appeal, which we hope will help to raise the vital funds we need to replace our life-saving helicopters, and keep them flying for years to come. Partnerships like these are a vital source of income for our charity and we are grateful to Omaze for their support. Read more: https://lnkd.in/epk9paa5

  • Have you spotted our ads on the tube? 🚇 Earlier this year we launched adverts across the London transport network to help spread awareness that we're in urgent need of London's support to replace our helicopters. We are reliant on public support to be able to continue to serve the people of London, 24/7, 365 days a year.

  • London, do you have O positive or O negative blood type? 🩸 NHS Blood and Transplant is urgently calling for blood donors to book appointments. Our advanced trauma team carry O blood on board for urgent blood transfusions. O blood can be given when a patient’s blood type is not known, especially in emergencies. Dr John Chatterjee, a Consultant with London’s Air Ambulance, recently spoke to Jim Diamond on LBC News about the importance of O blood for London. Listen from 01:30:45: https://lnkd.in/e5PuTkfQ

  • We’d like to say a huge thank you to London Masons and Middlesex Masons for their brilliant fundraising efforts. Earlier this month, they presented our Director of Fundraising and Marketing, Jayne Clarke, with a very generous cheque of £107,500 after a group of masons walked from Twickenham to Freemasons Hall, helping to raise vital funds for our #UpAgainstTime appeal.
