How do we achieve transport networks that meet passengers’ needs and make it easier for us all to choose sustainable travel options? We teamed up with Mott MacDonald, Gowling WLG and Hitachi Rail to publish a new report exploring this question and providing an insight into the steps that need taking. We found that long-term planning needs to be implemented, and this should be underpinned by a consideration of three key questions or ‘building blocks’: ✔️ Strong foundations – where are we now? ✔️ Visionary outlook – where do we want to get to? ✔️ Bold transition – how do we get there? As well as unpacking what these three building blocks mean, the report is punctuated with national and international case studies – each providing key learnings and success stories. About us
London Transport Museum explores the story of London and its transport system over the last 200 years, highlighting the powerful link between transport and the growth of modern London, culture and society since 1800. We care for over 450,000 items - preserving, researching and acquiring objects to use in our galleries, exhibitions and other activities. As well as exploring the past, the Museum looks at present-day transport developments and concepts for urban transportation in the future, which includes a contemporary collecting policy for the benefit of future generations.

📢 UK transport services need long-term planning to be implemented immediately to meet passengers’ needs 📢 Today we’ve published a new report that explores how we develop transport networks that meet passengers’ needs and make it easier for them to choose sustainable travel options. The report, titled Making Transport Fit for the Future, has been published as part of our thought-leadership programme, Interchange. It’s the result of a collaboration between the Museum, leading engineering consultancy firm Mott MacDonald, international law firm Gowling WLG and Hitachi Rail. Calling for long-term planning in the form of three building blocks, it highlights travellers’ needs for affordable, reliable, convenient, safe and accessible transport systems. The report points to national and international case studies that demonstrate success stories and key learnings. These include Transport for London’s Active Travel scheme to promote cycling and walking, Montpellier’s free public transport initiative and First Bus’s use of AI to enhance reliability and efficiency of public transport systems. #TransportFitForTheFuture

Here’s some photos from today’s fantastic TfL Pioneers Eco Seminar at the London Transport Museum. What an incredible programme (which is part of TfL’s wider Travel for Life Programme). Student ambassadors aged 11 to 18 from schools across London, presented their projects to promote active, healthy, safe and sustainable travel to school. I was honoured to take part as an Industry Consultant on a panel with Gillian Walton (Hitachi Rail) and Fenella Goodhart, where we provided feedback and ask questions about the students’ projects. The students were all seriously impressive and passionate about improving lives and the environment. Through their projects, they are delivering impactful change for their fellow students and surrounding communities. I must give a huge shout out to Michael Kitchen and Sonia Bownes from the London Transport Museum who run the programme. They do an amazing job and are brilliant with the students. There is so much good to be said about these students and this programme I couldn’t do it justice, but just for starters... it’s helping to develop skills in young people, build a passion for, educating and promoting sustainability, deliver real-world improvement on the ground, developing a pipeline of talent and interest for our industry, promoting the important role TfL plays in sustainability, building strong communities and creating powerful young citizens who are driving positive change for the sake of all our futures! #tflpioneers #tfltravelforlife #visionzeroldn @ltmuseum
