About us
The London Symphony Orchestra is one of the world’s top orchestras. Our home is at the Barbican in the City of London, where we perform over 80 concerts every year, and at LSO St Luke’s, a converted 18th-century church just up the road which is the base for our LSO Discovery community and education programme. We also run a record label, LSO Live. Each year we tour to several different countries, and return to some regularly where we have residencies.

What a day!☀️ On Saturday we held our annual LSO BMW Classics in Trafalgar Square with Duncan Ward taking us through pieces by Chabrier, Brahms, Joanne Lee, Stravinsky and John Williams under the sun which finally came through just as we started! We were also joined on stage by LSO Discovery Young Musicians and Musicians from the Guildhall School of Music & Drama to perform the world premiere of Joanne Lee's beams.bellows.bounds. Some more news from the performance was BMW Group's Walter Mertl announcing our partnership will continue for the next three years! We are also grateful to the Mayor of London and GLA for their support of the event. Thanks to everyone who joined us in the Square and online and don't forget you can watch the full performance on our YouTube channel! Let us know if you were there, and see you next year! #LSOBMWClassics #LetsDoLondon #BMWGroupCulture Photos: Doug Peters & Kevin Leighton

Last night ourselves and Cypress Hill brought the Simpsons to life at the Royal Albert Hall. After the Simpsons predicted the concert in the 1996 'Homerpalooza' episode and a reply to a tweet in 2017 brought the concert together, so this unforgettable night has been a long time coming. Thanks to everyone involved in putting on this incredible show, and do get in touch if you ever want to 'order the London Symphony Orchestra'.😉 Photos: Andy Paradise

Tomorrow, we're performing with Cypress Hill at the Royal Albert Hall! 🎶 This concert is epic on its own, but just wait until you hear the story behind it. The Simpsons predicted this 28 years ago, and it all connects to a tweet from a wonderful former colleague of ours.
From social media banter to actual real-life happening - tomorrow the London Symphony Orchestra and Cypress Hill finally collaborate on stage, 28 years after The Simpsons predicted it, and 7 years after I accidentally set Twitter on fire by suggesting it. I've fallen out of love with Xitter (pronounced in the Spanish way 💩 😉 ) recently, but in the olden days (AKA the 2010s) it was a fun place to be an orchestra. No one expected the LSO to be bantering with them, quoting old Simpsons episodes ("did someone order the London Symphony Orchestra, possibly while high? Cypress Hill, I'm looking in your direction..."), it was all just messing around in the name of profile-raising and engagement. So one time (2017) when the Cypress Hill account joined in the bants, an off-the-cuff "hey let's do this for real" was thrown in. A couple of messages back and forth later (possibly involving the 🤘 emoji) it was the end of the day, so I went to bed and thought no more about it. The next day I awoke to a panicked email from our press officer... "Jo, what have you said?!?!" - a phrase to make every social media manager's blood run cold. What did I say? I genuinely couldn't remember! Turns out that legions of Simpsons and Cypress Hill fans had got a hold of our exchange and thought that we had just arranged a joint gig. Our Twitter account was in meltdown. NME saw it and retweeted it, and suddenly the world's press were ringing our man - on holiday in Sri Lanka at the time, poor chap - and asking for the details of this gig! Oops! Never one to miss a commercial opportunity, the LSO's Concerts & Recordings Manager got on the phone to Cypress Hill's management, and only 7 years later ( 🤣 ) it happens IRL tomorrow at the Royal Albert Hall. Social media, eh? Better watch what you say, or else you might start something... 🔥

At the start of June, the world of wonder, sorcery and live magic came to life in our regular Family Concert series. 🎩 🐇 Families heard music by Stravinsky and Mozart alongside Hedwig's Theme from Harry Potter by John Williams and participated in pre-concert activities. 🦉 Huge thanks to Lucy Hollins and our very own Co-Principal Timpani, Patrick King for presenting the concert and showing some amazing magic tricks and for Lee Reynolds for conducting.
