As temperatures hit the mid 20's this week, it may seem odd to hear London Stansted Airport has been preparing for winter! ❄️ Our snow team, which is responsible for clearing runways, taxiways and aircraft stands during wintry weather conditions, has been diligently working over the last few weeks to fine-tune its winter operations plan. Nick Millar, the airport’s Operations Director, said: “With more than 29 million passengers travelling through London Stansted in all weather conditions each year, it’s a big job to ensure the airfield and runway are always safe and operational..." 🥂 New world-class Emirates lounge lands at London Stansted Airport 🥂 We are delighted to announce that Emirates has opened its doors to a new lounge here at London Stansted, offering one of the best views of the airport. The airline has invested more than £4 million to design a spacious 900-square-metre lounge that can accommodate up to 125 guests, including First and Business Class customers, as well as Emirates Skywards members! ✈️⭐ It also offers customers a short walk for dedicated boarding access to the aircraft, with a short 2–3-minute walk to the Boeing 777 which serves the double-daily route. Busiest ever month rounds off a record-breaking summer at London Stansted Airport. ✈️ The monthly total of 3.06 million passengers in August was an increase of 4.9% on the same month last year, and beat the previous highest ever monthly total set in August 2018. London Stansted Airport broke through the three million passenger barrier for the first time in its history. 💥 The busiest day in London Stansted's history was recorded on 23rd August with more than 103,700 passengers passing through the airport. ✈️ Operational performance remained good, with 99% of passengers passing through security in 15 minutes or less, and with an average queue time of less than 2 minutes 30 seconds. 📈 Between June and August, a total of 8.8 million passengers took advantage of the excellent choice, value and operational efficiency we offer. Last week, London Stansted Airport welcomed the High Sheriff of Essex, David Hurst DL. ✈ David was taken on a behind-the-scenes tour by our Public Affairs Manager, Thomas Fieldhouse, who explained the operation of the airport, our work and connections across Essex and the region, and our exciting plans for the future. Nowadays, the role of High Sheriffs in England and Wales is largely ceremonial, but historically they were responsible for upholding law and order within their counties. Today’s High Sheriffs retain close links with organisations like the Police, Border Force, and Judiciary as well as working with communities and voluntary groups and taking part in important civic functions. In keeping with this, David was also able to meet with UK Border Force and Essex Police during his visit and hear about their work, the challenges they face, and how it takes multiple partners working together to deliver an efficient and safe operation. We are very grateful to David for taking the time to visit us and wish him well in his work across Essex over the coming year.
