To address the rising demand for housing support, we've refreshed our Social Housing Allocation Policy, making it clearer, with greater priority given to our most vulnerable residents and those who have lived in the borough for 10 years or more.🏡 Cllr Steve Tuckwell, Cabinet Member for Planning, Housing and Growth, outlines why it's vital for residents with housing concerns to work with the council and its partners to find an affordable home to prevent anyone from becoming homeless. We’ve published further details of our support for older residents this winter after we stepped in to help protect them from the government’s winter fuel allowance cuts.❄🏘 This will impact thousands of pensioners in the borough and, in response, the Leader of the Council, Cllr Ian Edwards, first unveiled the support plans in September. The council is using some of the £2 million Household Support Fund it has been allocated, under the latest extension of the scheme, to work with Age UK to assist pensioners in the borough who may be entitled to Pension Credit to submit a claim. A Pensioners' Support Fund has also been established to help those who are not eligible for the winter fuel allowance, born before 23 September 1958, and experiencing financial hardship, where they can apply for utility bill support to help heat their homes this winter. Our Legal Services team has successfully passed its annual assessment to maintain its accredited LEXCEL status 📣🎉 LEXCEL is an internationally recognised legal practice quality mark, administered by The Law Society for client care, compliance, and practice management, which the team has held since 2001. The independent assessment took place in early October, and included a process of in-person interviews with members of staff, as well as in-depth reviews of how legal cases and digital and printed information are managed by the service. The assessment report commended the team in three areas of good practice, including how it manages the council’s subject access requests, Data Privacy Impact Assessments and Freedom of Information requests.
