London Borough of Camden

Government Administration

A truly inclusive organisation that encourages diversity in all respects, including diversity of thinking!

About us

Camden has a proud, rebellious spirit that throughout its history has seen communities come together to tackle problems, and to bring about real social change. Our Camden 2025 community vision sets out a vision for the future of the borough, where everyone contributes to achieving a safe, fair, creative and active community. We want to make Camden a better borough – a place where everyone has a chance to succeed and where nobody gets left behind. Together, we will create a place that works for everyone, and where everybody has a voice. We want our staff to share our level of ambition and hold our values, as our staff will be key to delivering Our Camden Plan. These values mean we will make sure we put citizens at the heart of everything the organisation does and make sure that we focus on addressing the inequalities that can hold people back. We want Camden Council to be a great place to work that champion’s equality, including a commitment to initiatives like the London Living Wage, which help to make our community a fairer place. A vital part of this is ensuring we are a truly inclusive organisation that encourages diversity in all respects, including diversity of thinking. By doing this, we will ensure we continue to represent our communities to the best of our ability and deliver our ambitions for Camden. We will continue our development as an agile council, where flexible working brings benefits for staff and for our work. We prize collaborative approaches and working across traditional boundaries.

📣 We have officially launched our Carers Action Plan! The plan was approved at Monday’s Full Council meeting, following a moving debate which highlighted the challenges faced by unpaid carers and the need for better support. Developed alongside carers and local carer services, the action plan aims to: 🔹 Highlight actions for services to work together to enable change for all types of unpaid carers 🔹 Identify more carers in the borough and improve access to support In addition to the launch, a free exhibition titled ‘What does caring mean to you?’ is running at Pancras Square Library. It showcases artwork created by carers to offer a glimpse into their thoughts and experiences. 💬 Councillor Anna Wright, Cabinet Member for Health, Wellbeing & Adult Social Care, said: “We know the challenges that unpaid carers face, giving up their time and taking on additional responsibilities to support a family member, friend, or someone who they know would struggle without extra help. “Many people in the borough may not recognise that they are an unpaid carer, or may be missing out on much-needed support for their caring role. The Carers Action Plan is our commitment to recognising these dedicated individuals and their vital contributions to caring for others. “We will continue to listen to their experiences and work with our health and social care partners to connect with more carers and ensure they are getting the support they need.” 🔎 Read more here: https://lnkd.in/eCuTtuj5

🙌 Congratulations to our very own Yasmin Chowdhury, Community Liaison Advisor in the West Kentish Town estate redevelopment team, who was shortlisted for a Housing Heroes Award which celebrates those making a real difference in the UK’s housing sector.    Nominated for the ‘Resident of the Year’ category, Yasmin lives on the West Kentish Town estate and works at Camden where she has been instrumental in driving meaningful community engagement as part of the proposed redevelopment of her estate, which will provide over 800 new homes.    Yasmin has been pivotal in encouraging residents to participate in shaping the estate redevelopment, involving underrepresented voices in the discussion, and championing on behalf of her community. She’s organised a range of consultation and engagement initiatives, including:    ✨ Workshops at the local primary school which have helped to engage young people living on the estate.  ✨ Community fundays and ‘arts and crafts’ events, creating an atmosphere where children and families can come together, whilst feeling welcome and heard.  ✨ A weekly market stall and resident visits to other redevelopment sites.    Having lived on the estate for over 20 years, she has brought a sense of empathy and sensitivity to her neighbours’ needs, which has been vital in enabling the Council to design a project that truly delivers for residents.    #EmployeeSpotlight #CommunityEngagement #Redevelopment #NewHomes #Housebuilding

We're running a consultation on creating a trial motor traffic-free zone on a section of Camden High Street!   The High Street is an iconic destination for visitors and a key shopping and transport hub for locals, but large crowds coupled with traffic can negatively affect visitors' experiences. That's why we're proposing to trial a motor traffic-free zone on the northern section of the High Street. This would improve pedestrian safety, improve air quality, provide more space for businesses, encourage customers to spend more time in the reclaimed space for people and allow us to host cultural activities that would celebrate Camden's unique culture.   This consultation process is key for us to receive feedback on our proposals from key stakeholders, but it also provides a forum for locals, visitors, businesses and more to share their ideas on how they can bring about positive change in their community.   Input from our community helps us learn - so play your part and respond to our consultation now! More information on the proposals and survey available here: https://lnkd.in/ds4XNZ2u

We’d like to send a huge thank you to everyone who helped the Camden election count run smoothly last week 👏 Since last year there’s been a lot of work happening behind the scenes to prepare for the general election – so when it was called just over six weeks ago, we got to work transforming five floors of our council offices at 5 Pancras Square into the count venue for our two Camden constituencies, Holborn & St Pancras and Hampstead & Highgate. It takes a lot of people to run a successful count – a huge thank you to teams across the council who pulled together under Acting Returning Officer (also Camden Council Chief Executive) Jenny Rowlands. Our teams managed everything from the recruitment of 320 count staff, to preparing the building’s systems and set up and making sure it looked the part, to looking after national TV broadcasters so they had everything they needed to report live from the count. You might have spotted some of them on your TV screens alongside some familiar faces that night. We’d also like to thank all of our staff for your hard work in the run up to election day - everyone who worked at a polling station on Thursday, on the night of the count, and of course to all our teams who continued to provide council services for our residents. This truly was a team effort!

🎉 Welcome to Nana Bonsu, Director of Relational Practice, Children and Learning Nana Bonsu, our new Director of Relational Practice is now in post. Nana will be leading on embedding relational practice into the Directorate. 💬 Nana says: “When I saw the role for Director of Relational Practice at Camden, my immediate reaction was excitement and gravitas. It is an ambitious role, creating a coherent relational approach to all aspects of council run services.” “As Director of Relational Practice, what Relational Practice means to me is an understanding that we are all connected in systems. Systems that are malleable and offer feedback that helps us to consider where we need to make changes for social justice and equality. "I truly believe we can create the social worlds we wish to live in, through our language, dialogue, intentionality, and actions. I look forward to further embedding this into Camden culture and practice.” We are excited to welcome Nana, and to work with her to ensure the best possible outcomes for children and families in Camden. #NewInPost #Director #Camden #LocalAuthority
