It's time for another #TravelTuesday ✈️ This Tuesday, we’ll be travelling to the Republic of the Congo 🇨🇬 In 2022, Exmar was approached by Eni to monetise gas reserves of the Marine XII field in Congo. To implement an LNG export solution in a short timeline, a combined system was developed with two existing units: the TANGO floating LNG (FLNG), a liquefaction barge with liquefaction capacity of approximately 1 billion m³/y of gas originally designed for benign conditions with limited storage capacity, and the EXCALIBUR, an LNG carrier to serve as permanent storage unit (FSU) for the terminal. Eni’s Congo LNG project leveraged the Marine XII block’s gas resources and existing production infrastructure, adopting a phased approach to achieve the goal of zero routine gas flaring. Fancy a bit of travel Tuesday? Well you’re in luck! This Tuesday we’ll be travelling to North America. Over the last decade, LNG as a marine fuel has gained significant traction in North America as a cleaner alternative to conventional marine fuels like heavy fuel oil. This development is driven by stringent environmental regulations, the availability of gas, and its cost-effectiveness, supporting the maritime industry’s shift towards sustainability. In a recent article by American Bureau of Shipping (ABS) in our North America issue, it was highlighted how key ports like Los Angeles/Long Beach, Houston, Vancouver, and Jacksonville have developed significant LNG bunkering infrastructure. This growth is fueled by industry collaboration and public-private partnerships aimed at facilitating the planning, funding, and implementation of these projects.
