We became fully operational in 2013 but we draw on a long and distinguished history dating back to 1760 through our trading arm, Lloyd’s Register Group Limited (LR), with its tradition of public benefit. Our vision is to be known worldwide as a leading supporter of engineering-related research, training and education, that makes a real difference in improving the safety of the critical infrastructure on which modern society relies. In support of this, we promote scientific excellence and act as a catalyst working with others to achieve maximum impact. Our latest #WorldRiskPoll resilience #data shows that while overall resilience was stable at a global level from 2021 to 2023, at the individual level, it fell, with significant drops in almost a third (42) of countries measured in the Index in both years. This decline was driven by a global increase, from 36% to 43%, in the number of people who say they can do nothing to protect themselves and their families in a #disaster. Twice as many people have now experienced a #disaster in New Zealand in the past five years, compared to 2021 (52% vs 26%). The findings come from the latest edition of the Lloyd's Register Foundation #WorldRiskPoll Resilience Index, which reveals how community and societal resilience in New Zealand have been negatively impacted by recent experiences of disaster. Our #report, ‘Resilience in a Changing World’ shows that resilience scores declined sharply in the regions most affected by the floods of January 2023, which caused people to report lost confidence in the support of the government, community, and infrastructure.
