#News: A recruitment drive is to be launched seeking leaders with "a strong national and international perspective" to join the board of The Liverpool Regeneration Partnership (LRP). The Partnership, which will play a pivotal role in shaping the future of the city, was a key recommendation of the Liverpool Strategic Futures Advisory Panel, chaired by Steve Rotheram, Mayor of the Liverpool City Region. Leader of Liverpool City Council, Cllr Liam Robinson, announced the news at a packed Liverpool Developer's Forum this morning, at Boxpark Liverpool, in the Baltic Triangle. The brief of the Partnership and its board is to "provide strategic leadership to drive forward regeneration opportunities, accelerate development, and enhance the quality of life for the city's residents". Liverpool City Council has ambitious plans to significantly transform the city, delivering thousands of new homes, jobs, major infrastructure, public realm and green spaces, as well as accelerating the skills agenda and the path to net zero. The Partnership will be supported by the Council’s City Development Team, which is currently overseeing a number of transformational schemes such as the development of Festival Gardens, Kings Dock, Paddington Village South and Littlewoods TV and Film Studios as well as devising a new waterfront plan and housing strategy. The new board will also be joined by senior representatives of the city and city region and representatives from central government. It is anticipated the board will be the governing body for the proposed locally led Urban Development Corporation. Chief Executive of Liverpool City Council, Andrew Lewis, told those at the Developer's Forum that a specific focus of the Partnership will be the "arc of opportunity" around north Liverpool from Ten Streets, Pumpfields and Fabric District and Paddington Village in the Knowledge Quarter Liverpool (KQ Liverpool). Applications for the Liverpool Regeneration Partnership board will close on Monday, 13 January 2025. If you have questions about the role, please contact Nuala Gallagher, Corporate Director of City Development. #TheNextChapter #ImprovingLiverpool Sophie Bevan I Kate Bull I Ben Heywood I Samantha Campbell I David Lord I Nicola Butterworth I Jacqui McKinlay I Camilla Mankabady I Matthew Ashton I Andy Mollon I Liverpool City Region Combined Authority I Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government

Public Health chiefs in #Liverpool have welcomed the introduction of a new bill in Parliament which is set to ban disposable vapes and the sale of cigarettes to anyone born after 2009. Liverpool has an estimated 51,000 smokers, and smoking is the biggest cause of death in the City. Public Health Liverpool recently launched a tobacco reduction strategy aimed at reducing the proportion of smokers from just over 17 percent to 5 percent by 2030. Illegal vapes and tobacco worth hundreds of thousands of pounds have been seized this year in joint operations with Merseyside Police, with more than a dozen shops closed down. In a joint statement, Director of Public Health, Professor Matt Ashton, and Cabinet Member for Public Health, Cllr Harry Doyle, said: “Supporting people who smoke to quit for good also protects those who don’t by creating a smoke-free environment, including children. “The Tobacco and Vapes Bill builds on previous work which has reduced the damage caused by smoking, including the ban on smoking in public places which Liverpool helped pioneer, and restrictions on sales and advertising. “Our groundbreaking State of Health in the City report identified the challenges that we need to tackle by 2040, including smoking and vaping. “We are committed to working with the Government to make sure that this this legislation is as effective as possible, by cracking down on those who continue to sell vapes and tobacco in contravention of the new laws.” Matthew Ashton | Elspeth Anwar | Ian Williams | Nicola Butterworth | Anne Marie Lubanski | Jenny Turnross | Camilla Mankabady | Jacqui McKinlay

#News:: #Liverpool City Council is set to take full control of essential environmental services including waste collection, street cleansing and parks maintenance. Since 2016, these front-line services have all been delivered by the Council-owned subsidiary company, Liverpool Streetscene Services Ltd (LSSL). Now a report to the Council’s Cabinet, which meets on Tuesday 12 November, is recommending that staff from LSSL are brought back under the direct control of the Council to deliver a year-round environmental programme for residents and businesses. Although this move will have no direct impact on the collection of household waste, it will be part of a wider drive to improve the city’s low recycling rates and to strengthen environmental enforcement action. Once delivered, it is anticipated the City’s new approach to waste management will ensure services are joined up and working efficiently over the coming decade, as well as radically reducing the city’s domestic carbon emissions. Next week’s recommendation has been heavily influenced by responses from the Council’s annual residents’ survey, in which the cleanliness of the City was identified as their number one priority. The Council has already invested significantly based on this feedback, recruiting 18 new Streetscene staff to focus on litter this year, with more being hired to target enforcement on issues such as flytipping. Liverpool, which has witnessed the installation of the biggest network of urban underground bins in the UK, is also currently piloting solar bins as the Council seeks to explore innovative ways to tackle environmental challenges. The Council has also improved its weed management programme in response to warmer and wetter winters and has continued its new green maintenance programme to encourage more biodiversity in the City’s parks and open spaces – both elements delivered by LSSL staff. A number of factors have caused the Council to rethink the out-sourced model, such as upcoming national legislation on food recycling rates and the Council’s decision to invest in the introduction of a new Neighbourhood model. The Council established a joint working group between LSSL, which employs more than 600 staff, and Council managers to establish a way forward, and together found that an insourcing arrangement would also enable stronger enforcement against environmental crime and anti-social behaviour. Subject to Cabinet approval the process of transferring LSSL Staff, which will involve consultation with all stakeholders, will take place over the next year and is due to be completed by 31st October 2025. #ImprovingLiverpool Full story at: https://lnkd.in/ewQqiGAu Nicola Butterworth I Louise H.
