I really enjoyed being part of a panel today on the topic "Transition into Tech" for GTA Black Women In Tech. I had the pleasure of hearing the "origin stories" and experiences shared by the other guest speakers; Kenya Fairley of Bumble, Hannah Spence founder of Clockflower solutions and Marsha V. of Avanade. Each person's journey was unique - I was in sales, and then in market research before I moved into tech. I then married my skills in tech and entrepreneurship together to start Purposeful Group. Kenya worked for the US government, Hannah was a teacher... Having a "perfect" career trajectory is not essential. Focusing on what you lack, rather than what you have creates additional stress, when this energy could be better spent on upskilling, and exploring alternative ways to move forward. I had the incredible honour of attending the LGC Awards 2024, invited by Hamish Mackay, Islington Council, LIFT futures as LIFT futures was shortlisted for Economic Development! LIFT is finally getting the recognition it deserves!!!! Sadly, we didn't win BUT we were highly commended which is such a huge deal!!! 🥳 ( P.S. In my heart, LIFT is always a winner :) Words cannot fully express the impact LIFT has had on my life. When I applied for the Video Content Production Internship in 2022, it was on a whim. I could never have imagined the journey ahead: gaining new skills, working with a team that values my talent, and experiencing true accessibility. As a Deaf person with newfound mental health conditions, I've constantly had to fight for my access needs, facing numerous barriers in my work life. However, my experience with LIFT was unlike any other; they were enthusiastic advocates who genuinely went above and beyond to empower me every step of the way. I'm incredibly grateful; even now, they remain an integral part of my life, going beyond professional relationships and evolving into a supportive community. 🥹 If all work programs adopted LIFT's values and approach... the U.K. economy would thrive 📈📈📈 Thank you, LIFT and team, for everything you've done for me 🫶🏾 🫶🏾 🫶🏾
