New The Disability Download episode alert ⏰ This month we're talking about accessible travel with special guest Arunima Misra. Join our host Josh as he chats to Arunima, who loves to travel, about their holiday experiences. Wheelchair users can face major challenges, not least when travelling on a plane. But there can be wonderful experiences too. Arunima rightly advises people not to be put off, and to get out there when we can! 🎧 Listen to our new episode wherever you get your podcasts. Video description: A still image of Arunima sitting in her wheelchair, smiling at something off camera, plays throughout the whole video. There's The Disability Download logo in the left hand corner, and purple and white subtitles of an extract from her podcast episode, which say: "It's very easy to get stuck in a comfort zone and just go to the same places that you're comfortable with. I mean that's travelling and for me that's in my daily life. I'll go to the same restaurants, I'll go to the same pubs. So, you know you're right to try and avoid that monotony, I don't see why disabled people can't have that same freedom of movement. It's just we're so restricted by the environment around us." #Podcasts #AccessibleTravel

Building Strategic HR Solutions | CIPD Level 7 in Progress | Driving Talent & Inclusion at NHS England

I’m really passionate about making the workplaces more accessible and inclusive. At NHS England, I've had the privilege to work on several initiatives that celebrate equality, diversity, inclusion. It's not just about meeting legal requirements (although that’s obviously very important), but it's about fostering an environment where everyone has an equal opportunity to thrive! 🚀 Over the last 2 and a half years I have helped: ⭐ Shape the standard for inclusive retention across the NHS: I successfully advocated for and secured commitment from the National Retention Programme to embed a dedicated section on reasonable adjustments in the all future external retention articles, marking a transformative step forward. ⭐ Drive discrimination elimination: I've identified and presented critical insights into negative impacts within the Regional Equality Impact Assessments (EQIA), steering structural changes to eradicate unlawful discrimination and foster inclusivity. ⭐ Improve recruitment for 20,000 colleagues: I influenced and advocated for inclusive recruitment practices and strategies while managing the internal recruitment system used by over 20,000 colleagues. Why am I passionate about this? Well I have a long-term condition myself and making sure my day-to-day efforts help other people gives me a sense of purpose. I actually began my NHS journey through Leonard Cheshire’s Change 100 Internship Programme for students and graduates with a long-term condition or disability (including neurodiversity). And had it not been for my internship, I would probably not have considered applying to the NHS – so it truly changed the trajectory my life. Applications are open for Leonard Cheshire’s summer 2024 paid internships. You have until 30 November 2023 get your applications in! 📝 Managers - why not consider signing up to be a Change 100 employer? You read some of my achievements above, don't you want someone equally as ambitious on your team? 🌟

Lord Darzi has called for reform of social care in today's major NHS report. This is crucial: social care reform would free up the 13% of NHS beds occupied by people waiting for social care support. And, more importantly, it would transform the lives of working age disabled adults, older people and children who need social care. Lord Darzi's damning analysis outlines the human cost of the failure to reform. He said: "Social care has not been valued or resourced sufficiently, which has both a profound human cost and economic consequences." Today's report should be a defining moment, not just for the NHS but for social care. There is a groundswell of support for the Government to address the challenges without delay. We stand with the sector, and millions who need care support, to help get this right. Find out about the state of care in your area and take action with our 'Show Us You Care' campaign.
