We're running a series of inspirational speaker events online and our next guest is Dan Biddle. At 26, Dan was a Projects Manager in the construction industry, brimming with enthusiasm after hearing that London had won the bid for the 2012 Olympics. However, his life took a drastic turn when he found himself standing next to a suicide bomber on the ill-fated tube that had just departed from Edgware Road station. Dan's world was irrevocably changed that day, but his incredible journey of resilience and recovery stands as a testament to the strength of the human spirit. In this powerful session, Dan will share his compelling story, offering insights and inspiration on how to face and overcome life’s most formidable challenges. The subtitles show her saying "If you want it (to be a parent) and you are physically and biologically able to do it, even if you need a little bit of assistance, just do it. My children give me a reason to get up in the morning. I don't mean that in a in a really horrible way. I would get up in the morning anyway, but they give me a reason to brighten my day. Yeah, they give me a purpose. As far as I'm concerned. And I don't really know what life was like before they were around."

We are delighted and honoured to announce that His Majesty King Charles III is Leonard Cheshire’s new Patron 🎉 This follows a review of more than 1,000 Royal Patronages after His Majesty The King’s Accession. Her late Majesty Queen Elizabeth II supported Leonard Cheshire for over four decades having become our Patron in 1980. During this period, she visited and opened services on several occasions, as well as supported fundraising and our work with young disabled people. The charity was informed of the new Patronage by Buckingham Palace, ahead of the one-year anniversary of Their Majesties' Coronation. One in five people in the UK will become disabled in their lifetime. For more than 75 years, Leonard Cheshire has worked directly with disabled people to give them the freedom to live their lives the way they choose with the opportunity to fully take part in society. As well as residential care and supported living services, we run life changing employment support with young disabled people. The announcement of His Majesty’s Patronage comes as the charity looks to modernise its provision to meet the needs of future generations of disabled people. Ruth Owen, CEO of Leonard Cheshire said, “This was wonderful news to receive. We are proud and delighted that His Majesty The King has confirmed acceptance of Patronage of the charity. “It is a huge privilege and honour that our essential work with disabled people has been recognised in this wonderful way. “His Majesty’s Patronage will be warmly welcomed by those we support, Trustees, staff and our supporters.”

The Prime Minister talks of a so-called 'sicknote culture', and is proposing major changes to disability benefits. We won't allow disabled people to be demonised like this. That's why we're supporting Scope's petition. Add your name today. 🔗 https://bit.ly/49RUhDn #Ableism #DisabilityRights
