About us
Barking and Dagenham is one of London's most exciting and fastest growing boroughs. The council is facing some huge challenges, but we also have the opportunity of a lifetime to grow the borough and our community. We’re 20 minutes from London and have space for 60,000 new homes. We’re building London’s first Youth Zone and are on track to house a new film studio in Dagenham, rivalling the likes of Pinewood and boosting our local economy. We also now have our very own university campus, thanks to Coventry University setting up CU London, offering flexible learning and affordable courses to residents who historically had no aspirations to go to university. Change is needed and it’s happening already. We’re investing in our physical infrastructure and in our community, providing what people need to be able to help themselves. Yesterday we came together as a community to mark Srebrenica Memorial Day with a flag-raising ceremony outside Barking Town Hall. During the Srebrenica genocide, over 8,000 Bosnian Muslim men and boys were brutally murdered. As we remember and honour the victims and survivors, we acknowledge the profound pain and enduring impact this tragedy has had on countless lives. In addition to commemorating this somber event, we reaffirm our commitment to diversity, inclusion, and mutual respect. We'are dedicated to creating a community where everyone feels safe, valued, and respected, regardless of their background. ❤️ #NeverForget #SrebrenicaMemorialDay
