Glass Is Constant Change, Never Still, or You'll Perish When glass melts, it is a process full of paradoxes. Thousands of very small chemical reactions come together in order to melt the glass sufficiently. In spite of all the complex changes taking place inside, there is very slow progress on the outside. It must neither happen too quickly, as the glass might crack, nor too slowly, as it needs to melt evenly. It is necessary to transform the solid substance into a malleable mass from which you can then easily shape a sculpture, a crystal wall or components for a spectacular lighting installation. Not everyone can do this; you have to have a talent for glass! “We constantly educate ourselves, experiment, and push the boundaries of what glass is capable of. Craftsmanship simply cannot do without it,” says David Ševčík, the director of Lasvit's AJETO GLASSWORKS & TAVERN. The MVRDV studio architect Winy Maas in collaboration with Lasvit created the light installation Concurrency, which sets the tone for the 133 Way Yip business centre in Hong Kong. Clear glass suggests transparency – an essential aspect of business negotiations. Glass components alluding to beams of light are suspended from the ceiling in a sophisticated configuration that refers to the places in the world from which businesspeople have travelled to Hong Kong for meetings.

Lasvit's Olympic Sparkle Excitement is in the air as we gear up for the Olympics opening ceremony tonight. Each Czech Olympian will carry a special glass charm designed by Jan Černý and handcrafted by Lasvit. These amulets, shaped like linden tree leaves—the Czech national tree and symbol of love, perseverance, and protection—embody the athletes' determination, drive, and national pride.
