  • I asked ChatGP4 for the rationale for taking a LinkedIn break. This is what it came up with. Would you agree? What are your thoughts? ******************************** Taking a LinkedIn break as a business can be a strategic and revitalising decision, offering several benefits that can ultimately enhance your company’s performance and culture. Here’s why your business might appreciate taking a LinkedIn break: 1. **Refocus on Core Objectives**: A pause from LinkedIn allows your team to step back and concentrate on the company’s fundamental goals without the distraction of constant online engagement. This renewed focus can lead to better alignment and more effective execution of strategies. 2. **Boost Team Creativity**: Without the pressure to consistently produce content or monitor online trends, your team can dedicate time to brainstorming and developing innovative ideas. This creative rejuvenation can result in fresh approaches and new opportunities for growth. 3. **Enhance Internal Communication**: Redirecting focus from external networking gives your team the space to strengthen internal communication and collaboration. This can improve overall morale and foster a more cohesive and supportive work environment. 4. **Prioritise Quality Over Quantity**: Taking a break from the daily routine of LinkedIn allows your business to reassess its online strategy. Upon returning, you can focus on delivering higher-quality content and interactions, making a more significant impact with each post. 5. **Improve Employee Well-Being**: Social media can sometimes lead to burnout or stress, particularly when employees feel pressured to constantly engage or keep up with industry trends. A LinkedIn break can help alleviate this, promoting a healthier work-life balance and boosting overall productivity. 6. **Reconnect with Your Audience**: Stepping back offers the opportunity to better understand your audience’s needs and preferences. When you return to LinkedIn, you can re-engage with more targeted and meaningful content that resonates deeply with your followers. 7. **Strengthen Brand Authenticity**: Without the constant push to maintain an online presence, your business can focus on staying true to its values and mission. This authenticity will be evident when you return to LinkedIn, helping to build stronger, more genuine connections with your audience. In essence, taking a LinkedIn break can be a wise move for your business, allowing you to revitalise, refocus, and return with a fresh perspective and renewed energy. It’s an opportunity to enhance your strategy, boost creativity, and strengthen both your team and your brand.

  • The wizardry and magic of career consultants!

“Oh my word, you’re like an actual wizard!”, so began career consultant, Emma Lennox in her recent post on LinkedIn about the magic of a good careers consultation. However, if you’ve ever been to see a careers adviser and been disappointed with your encounter, this menu of what we are and what we’re not, what we do and what we don’t do, might shed some light on why this might have happened and what to look for the next time you sign up for a careers advisory session: 1. Don’t expect advice! Ironically, careers advisers don’t tend to give advice: Advice is very powerful, especially when it comes from a professional, so if and when we do give advice, it’ll come at the very end of the career session and be presented tentatively. The reason for this is that any advice suggested by a careers adviser may inappropriately add weight to your decision and, ultimately, only you can make your own decisions. 2. Look for professional qualifications and certifications. Careers advisers and coaches are qualified certified professionals, who use techniques, tools and tested methods to guide, counsel and coach our clients. Others can provide insights from their own perspective and experiences to support you to make career decisions, they can mentor you and give you useful advice and information, but a trained career coach or counsellor will be affiliated to a professional body and working to an ethical code of practice. 3. Careers advisers are not job encyclopaedias! We can investigate careers with you and signpost places to help you to research and search jobs of interest, but we can’t give you detailed information about every job. Having said that, many of us are specialised in particular career sectors – mine is research, academia, biosciences and related careers – and because we’re connected into a network of professionals, we can use our contacts to help you to find people and resources related to your careers of interest. 4. There are no quick fixes! Rarely can we give you easy answers, BUT we will help you to find your own answers. By listening, questioning, challenging and using other coaching and guidance techniques, we will help you to discover your interests, passions, skills, values and other aspects that are important to you in your life and work. We will help you to connect this information with types of careers to which you may be suited (at this point in time), as well as helping you to research them and find out more. We can also help you with practicalities, such as building your ‘brand’, identifying keywords for your online profile, providing feedback on your applications and CV, as well as giving you interview practice #SoMuchMoreThanTalkingAboutJobs

  • In the passing of a dear friend, I bid farewell to a remarkable soul whose journey in the realm of drug and alcohol addiction support illuminated countless lives. From her early days in this vital field, she displayed an unwavering commitment to those battling addiction, recognising the intricate interplay between their struggles and the criminal justice system. As a beacon of compassion and expertise, she seamlessly transitioned her invaluable insights to the challenging environment of HMPS at Lancaster Castle. Her brilliance shone brightly as she fearlessly navigated the complexities of addiction within the confines of prison walls, leaving an indelible mark on both her colleagues and those in her care. Throughout her illustrious career within HMPS, she rose with a pioneering spirit, spearheading D&A services in various institutions, including HMP Kirkham and HMP Preston. Her dedication and intellectual acumen were instrumental in transforming the landscape of addiction support within the correctional system, earning her a senior decision-making role at HMP Altcourse. Her influence was profound and enduring for those fortunate enough to have crossed paths with her. Our paths intertwined during her time at HMP Kirkham, and her mentorship paved the way for my own journey of career guidance within the secure estate. Without her unwavering support, I would never have been able to make my own contribution to the work with veterans in custody. She asked that we all wear something purple to her funeral. It was wonderful to see that everyone there did exactly that. Bossy, from beyond the grave, was our Donna! As I bid farewell to a dear friend, I honour her professional achievements, her character depth, and her love for her family and friends. Her legacy will continue to inspire and guide us as we carry the torch of compassion and advocacy in the fight against addiction. Rest in peace, dear friend, knowing that your impact on this world and those you touched will endure for generations. RIP Donna M, 1971-2024 #friendship #Addiction #Custody #HMPS #purple #veterans
