Lakelands Hospice provides palliative and end of life care, free of charge, for people in Corby and the surrounding villages living with life-limiting illnesses such as cancer, COPD, MS and advanced heart failure. Corby has one of the highest rates of heart failure in England and has some areas that are among the county’s most socially deprived. We do not receive any government or NHS funding, relying totally on charitable donations and fundraising events and we need to raise in excess of £525,000 each year to keep our doors open.

Gardening champions! On 27th June and the 9th July a team from RS Components volunteered at the hospice to undertake some work in the Lakelands hospice grounds. They painted garden furniture and tubs, weeded and jet washed paths, cleared borders, and tamed some of our overgrown shrubs. They worked well together and are obviously a small close-knit team, with lots of banter and good humour. They have made such a positive impact and a noticeable difference in the hospice grounds. We would like to thank Sarah, Michelle, Elizabeth, Ashley, Ritun, Sagar, Savannah, Edward, Scott, Umair and Joanne for their great work ethic, enthusiasm, and hard work through-out the day, with special thanks to Liz Harris for organising the June team. With special thanks to Louise Howarth for organising the July team and providing some lovely bright plants, and to Nathan at @Bailey’s skips for his generosity and ongoing support providing skips for our garden waste. The hospice grounds are enjoyed by our patients, volunteers and staff who all appreciate the hard work that goes into keeping the grounds well maintained and beautiful. Our small team of gardeners are grateful for any additional help, and we can all acknowledge what can be achieved when a team of like-minded people get together in the hospice grounds and work their magic.

On Friday i completed my Barefoot Ben Nevis charity climb for Lakelands Hospice. This was an amazing experience and i am so grateful for all of the kind words of encouragement and some amazing donations. It took about 6.5 hours to reach the summit and the last 2 hours were incredibly hard going on the feet. #keepitlocalkeepitlakelands

HELP NEEDED Are you a local marquee company? Can you help us with our annual Light up a Life Event this December? We hold two lovely services for the community to remember their loved ones one in the town centre and one onsite at our hospice in the grounds. Each year they are attended by hundreds of people from all across the local area who really appreciate the time to reflect and come together. Lakelands Hospice are partnering with local solicitors Tollers LLP to provide a Free Wills service for those supporters of and those supported by the Hospice. Appointments are available at their Corby Northampton and Oakham offices or at home for those unable to travel to an office. How it works? Contact Tollers directly for an appointment. Once you meet with them you will be given advice based on your circumstances and wishes. If your personal circumstances require a Will over and above a simple or mirror Will your solicitor will discuss this with you and confirm any additional fees – these fees will be agreed in advance and will be payable by you directly to Tollers. Many clients choose to leave a legacy to Lakelands Hospice in their will to support the work we do, however this isn’t compulsory. How to access this service? If you would like to arrange an appointment or require any further information… Talk to Tollers on 01536 276727 and the team will happily assist you.
