Team Bidiepa are part of #GenerationRestoration 🌍🌱 The team won the 2023 Green Enterprise Challenge competition in Ghana with their business plan to produce and sell smokeless fuel briquettes made from waste palm kernels. The Green Enterprise programme supported them along the way with mentoring and research sessions and equipped them with important core and entrepreneurial skills. Bidiepa means ‘good charcoal’ which is fitting because the idea tackles 3 environmental issues at once. It clears and reuses waste materials from the production of palm oil and palm nut soup, which kept blocking drainage ditches in their villages, leading to local flooding during the rainy season. It also promotes alternatives to burning wood and charcoal and minimizes smoke from cooking. Read the team’s full story here: https://lnkd.in/eFMiVDvh #GenerationRestoration #WorldEnvironmentDay

Taher from Jordan is part of #GenerationRestoration 🌍🌱 The Enterprise Business Challenge programme, run by our partner INJAZ, gave Taher and his team the business knowledge and communication skills to develop their own business concept - an ingenious device that monitors household water tanks to provide early warning of leaks. Jordan is faced with extreme water scarcity, which is exacerbated by the climate crisis and leads to desertification, loss of habitat and affects the country’s health and food security. The team’s invention detects leaks early on, protecting the precious resource and saving the users from costs and water damages. 💧👐 The team’s impressive business pitch earned them second place in the national finals in March 2023. They were awarded 500 Jordanian Dinar (around £570) in prize money to explore their idea in real life. Danielle from Jamaica is part of #GenerationRestoration 🌎🌱 With the help of our Explore Enterprise programme, run by Jamaica Youth Business Trust, she was able to start a family farm and reduce the burden on her aging parents. As a small island developing state Jamaica is especially affected by a decline in rainfall, which leads to prolonged dry periods and more intense droughts, as well as other climate-change-related hazards, such as spiking temperatures, hurricanes and sea-level rise. With the average age of farmers being around 55, Danielle is an important part of the next generation making agriculture more sustainable and improving the country’s food security. Happy #WorldEnvironmentDay 2024 🌍🌱 Under this year’s theme “Our land. Our future. We are #GenerationRestoration” we are putting a spotlight on the inspiring young people who are leading the way in supporting land restoration, halting desertification and making their communities more resilient to droughts. Lower income countries, where 4 in 5 young people live, are disproportionately affected by climate change. This can exacerbate inequality by hindering young people’s access to education, health, adequate nutrition and opportunities for growth. Many of our delivery regions worldwide have already felt the devastating effects of heatwaves, droughts and floods. Our education, enterprise and employment programmes aim to empower young people with the knowledge and skills to adapt to these changes and provide a platform for their innovative solutions. They can also provide young people with vital connections to break into the green industry or funding and support to set up their own green businesses. #GenerationRestoration #WorldEnvironmentDay
